Eight Benefits and Five Side Effects of Green Tea
There are benefits and side effects of green tea. This article will be about the health benefits and side effects of green tea.
- Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)
Green tea may help reduce inflammation that is associated with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, which are the two types of IBD. This would be beneficial for people with IBD because it may prevent them from getting colon cancer.
- Weight loss
Green tea or green tea extract may boost metabolism and help burn fat. Green tea and caffeine improved weight loss in overweight and moderately obese people. This is great for people who are trying to lose weight and need the extra help.
- Reduces arthritic pain
Green tea reduces inflammation and slows cartilage breakdown. In addition to the benefits above, green tea also helps reduce tooth decay, colds and the flu.
Side Effects of Green Tea - Caffeine
Green tea has a lot of caffeine, which may not be good for everyone. People who drink a lot of caffeine may suffer from irritability, insomnia, heart palpitations, and dizziness. Having too much caffeine may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headaches, and loss of appetite.
- People who have heart problems, kidney disorders, stomach ulcers, and psychological disorders should not drink green tea.
- Pregnant women
Green tea has a negative effect on pregnant women. The caffeine in green tea can increase the risk of spontaneous abortion, low birth rate, and even growth retardation.
- Nursing women
Nursing women should stay away from green tea because the caffeine can be passed on to the baby.
- Allergies
People who are sensitive to caffeine can develop hives or rashes from the green tea. It can also cause constant urination, reduction of potassium levels and incontinence.
These are all the benefits and side effects of green tea that I have. I want to stress that I’m not saying that green tea is a cure for any of the things that are listed above. I am not a doctor so I don’t know if green tea is guaranteed to help you. I did research on the subject and wanted to share what I found with you.
