Fibromyalgia: Symptoms of Fibromyalgia and Treatment of Fibromyalgia
About Fibromyalgia. Symptoms and different options for Treatment of Fibromyalgia.
Fibromyalgia is a disorder depicted by pain in muscles, joints, tendons, and other soft tissues. Generally the pain occurs in the area around the neck, shoulders, hip joints, elbows, and in the front area of the knees.
Symptoms of Fibromyalgia
Symptoms of Fibromyalgia are not always crystal clear which makes it difficult for the confirmation of this condition. Nothing seems to be clear in blood tests, brain and body examinations, or X-rays. The symptoms also show a discrepancy from person to person, adding up more unreliability to particular symptom tests.
However, there are some initial symptoms that identify a condition as fibromyalgia; these are specified as follows:
Chronic Pain
Pain is the major symptom of fibromyalgia. The pain is all over, affecting the muscles and tendons. The pain is particularly in the neck, back, shoulders, and hip joints. Patients frequently report that the pain and other tautness are worse in the early morning.
Sleeping Disorders
Usually fibromyalgia patients suffer with sleeping disorder called alpha-EEG anomaly. Patients hardly ever get a full night of relaxing sleep and in most nights, they don’t reach the deep state of sleep at all.
Some other sleeping disorders associated with fibromyalgia include grinding of teeth, jerking of legs and arms during sleep.
Temporary Memory Loss or Fibrofog
Temporary Memory Loss or Fibrofog is another common symptom of fibromyalgia. Patients report that they find it hard to concentrate or they usually experience temporary memory losses.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Approximately 50 to 60 per cent of diagnosed fibromyalgia patients make a complaint of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), which includes chronic diarrhea and constipation.
Gastrointestinal Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)
Gastrointestinal Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), which includes chest pain, digestive disorders, heartburn and chronic cough, has also been reported by fibromyalgia patients.
Chronic Headache
Fibromyalgia patients also complain of frequent severe headaches, which occur on both sides of the head with a feeling of severe pressure or cramp in the area as in migraine or tension type headaches.

Treatment For Fibromyalgia
At present, there is no effective treatment for fibromyalgia because of the lack of information in understanding about the causes of fibromyalgia. Most of the treatments that are available are fraudulent and ineffective although they claim to alleviate the disease. These treatments are here because most of the companies just want you to shell out some money.
In mild cases, alleviation of symptoms may go away through stress management, lifestyle changes and implementing exercise in our daily schedule. Exercise can help you ease the symptom of pain. Basically, it will make your muscles achieve more strength and become more flexible. This process will improve the quality of life for patients.
Antidepressants in low doses can be used to help patients with sleep disturbances and to decrease depression, as these are also a cause of fibromyalgia. Avoiding caffeine and eating a balanced diet may help with sleeping disorders, and may reduce the severity of the symptoms.

Acupuncture, Massage therapy and Chiropractic treatments are some of the other options to alleviate the symptoms of fibromyalgia.

I’ve been suffering with advanced fibromyalgia for about 20 years. I was born with IBS and was diagnosed as a child. The biggest problem with fibromyalgia is getting the medical community to understand that I’m not inventing the pain because I want attention or drugs.
