Handling an Epileptic Fit
First aid care in epileptic fits.

An epileptic fit is a very common neurological disorder and there is no clear known cause for its occurrence. In only 40 percent of cases studied epileptic fits actually have a cerebral cause. In most cases, it’s because of age related issues or a side effect of conditions such as paralysis, head injury, brain tumor or a cerebral infection.
If you are faced with a person having a ‘fit’, remember the following:
- Do not panic or you will be of no help.
- Make sure that the patient is lying down with his neck in the straight position .keep fire and blunt objects away.
- To avoid damage to the tongue, insert a clean cloth or handkerchief into the patient’s mouth.
- Most importantly, no liquid should be given to the patient during fits , as choking could occur.
- Most seizures stops naturally after a minute or so , without medical treatment . However, if the seizure continues or happens again , immediately call for medical help
