Has The Media Gone Over Board with The Swine Flu?
Swine Flu Deaths in US surpass 1,000.
Health officials have announced that there have been over a thousand deaths related to the swine flu and millions of Americans have had the swine flue so far but since they don’t test everyone to confirm they there is no exact count. Of the 1,000 Americans that have already died over 100 of them have been children since they are more susceptible to it. There are simple ways to protect yourself like wash your hand frequently avoid being around sick people as much as possible get vaccinated and if your a parent make sure your child isn’t doing this.

Every year Americans die from the seasonal flue and with vaccines available, I think that the swine flu coverage on local and the national level are a little overblown. Anyone that wears a mask around is taking things a little to far if you ask me.

The media would love a pandemic. This thing is way overblown.

Your simplistic appraisal of potential is frightening. You don’t live in the city where SARS struck hardest and hospitals were REFUSING to accept any walk-in or elective surgery patients. I think the masks you see in the image is in response to SARS, which hit Toronto pretty hard a few years ago and tourism dropped notable. People were afraid of this city. While ultimately your decision whether or not to get vaccinated is your decision, you may well turn out to be the vector that infects dozens or hundreds of people. Rethink your ignorance.
“…make sure your child isn’t doing this.”
For a number of reasons!

HiH1 is a descendant of the same strain that caused the 1918 pandemic known as “The Spanish Flu” It is estimated that worldwide it killed between 50 and 100 MILLION people.. While it can be pretty easy to say that we have vaccines and health-care that will catch this before it goes pandemic, if a million or two people suddenly flood the health-care system, it would be chaos and hospital will start REFUSING to accept walk-ins. -Pandemic. Here in Toronto when hundreds of people came down with SARS and health-care provided were essentially locking the front doors to keep sick people OUT, it was near hysteria and yes, hundreds+ people walking around the city wearing facemasks like that image. Hardest hit was Chinatown. I walked through there myself during the height of this (no, was not wearing a mask) and this normally bustling, overcrowded centre of the city was quite vacant. -People stayed indoors and kept to themselves. It was kinda spooky, like that movie “Omega Man.”
If you are not worried about H1N1 -you should be. This is not a media hype or a big political joke. It is quite real. Fortunately so far, the infection level has remained “mild” since this spring and no indication that it is increasing.

I think it is over dramatized and the media is feeding on it creating more panic. As with any flu, it attacks those who have weak immunity and hundreds-thousands die from ordinary flues due to complications each year because of weak immunity. Both my husband and son had it without any vacination or antibiotics and they both are fine, granted the cough was quite bad and lasted along time but it sometimes is with other types of flu as well. I am not saying don’t get the vaccination, although, it is not even FDA approved but it may be good for those with a low immunity, I am saying to be aware of the facts and try to raise immunity in other ways such as eating properly.

The media has defiantly had an impact on the flu…if they would keep their mouths shut no one would be in a panic.

Just as a follow up – my state of Michigan has had 22 total deaths attributed to HiH1 virus since it started. And, those people all had pre-existing medical problems. 10,000 people had vacinations last week when it became available and more to vacinatons are to come – no need for hysteria and no pandemic for the alarmist press to oversensationalize.
