If you want to avoid simple aches as pains you can. There are simple modifications you can make in the way you sit, stand, and position yourself throughout the day that make a dramatic difference in how you ultimately feel at the end of the day and in a cumulative process.

For example, carpal tunnel syndrome is something that can easily be avoided. If you work long hours at your computer, make sure that you do several things. First of all, you will want to make sure your key board is low enough that your arms are at a comfortable angle of approximately 135 degrees. While some find that resting their hands on a key board cushion can work, typically having your fingertips touching the keys and your wrists slightly elevated above them in a diagonal fashion is better.

You will also want to make sure that your back posture is completely straight. To make sure that you are sitting with the proper posture stand up against a wall. Make sure that the back of your heels touch the wall as well as the back of your shoulders. This is correct posture. Be aware, that slouching at the computer can cause both back pains as well as carpal tunnel syndrome. Maintain proper posture throughout the day and you will feel a positive difference in your entire body. Proper posture also helps with strengthening your abdominal muscles.

Next, sit with your legs either flat on the floor or extended outward in front of you. Avoid curling a leg up beneath you. When you do this your back and body is shifted unevenly which makes your body more prone to aches and pains. Crossing your legs can cause them to loose circulation and go numb or “fall asleep”. Crossing them can also cause varicose veins. If you see the beginnings of varicose veins make sure that when you are in a sitting position that you elevate your legs on a stool or foot rest that is slightly higher than your sitting level.
