Are you one of the millions of people who suffer from headaches? I know I suffer from headaches. I am always looking for ways to ease headaches without drugs. Sometimes over-the-counter drugs don’t ease my headaches. Home remedies ease my headaches better than drugs. Here are the ways to ease headaches without drugs.
Stay hydrated
You should drink plenty of cool, plain water. Sometimes a headache can be caused by dehydration. Drinking cool water will keep you hydrated and it will help you get your daily water intake.
Get enough sleep
Headaches can be brought on because you didn’t get enough sleep. If it’s possible, you should try to get seven or eight houses of sleep a night.
Avoid overusing pain medications
You should avoid going over the recommended dosage of medication. That can make your headache even worse than it was before.
Get something to eat
You can ease your headache by eating something because it could be a hunger headache. You could eat some fruit to help your blood sugar because your blood sugar could be up or down.
Take a nap
Take a nap for a few minutes. Taking a nap relaxes you and you may not notice your headache. You can also try closing your eyes and not thinking about your problems in order to ease your headache.
Take a shower
Taking a shower may relax you and ease the tension in your head. You should try and take a warm shower because that may relax you.
Relax
Try to take your mind off of stress by taking a walk. You can squeeze in a mini workout while easing your headache.
Massage your temples, neck and behind your jaw
Take a few minutes to gently massage your temples, your neck, behind your jaw or wherever you feel stiff.
Acupuncture
Pinch the meat between your thumb and forefinger. This is a reflexology point that corresponds to your head so pinching this part of your hand should ease your headache.
Stretch your muscles
Lower your head gently to one side and gently stretch your neck muscles. You may find some relief from your headache.
Walk away from your computer
Your headache could be triggered because of eyestrain. If your head starts to hurt while you’re on your computer, you should get off of it for a while. Staring at your computer screen for a long time can cause strain on your eyes, which can trigger a headache. I need to do this one more because I’m always on my computer.
Use an ice pack
You could use an ice pack on your head to ease your headache. If you don’t have an ice pack, you can fill a sandwich bag with ice and wrap it with a washcloth. I must warn you that it gets really cold and if you’re using the sandwich bag, it leaks once the ice starts to melt.
Read labels on food
Your headaches could be caused by something you are eating. There may be MSG in your food, which could be triggering headaches. If the food contains MSG, you should try to avoid it.
Rub vinegar on your head
I have tried this tip. You put some apple cider vinegar on a cotton ball, tissue, or a paper towel and rub the vinegar on your head. You should feel a tingle on your forehead. It helped ease my headache when I tried it.
These are all the tips I have. I hope these ways to ease headaches without drugs will help for all of you who suffer from headaches.

Great informative article. Thanks for the tips. I do get headaches often and yes, usually my headaches have to do with eyestrain from spending hrs on the computer. I have found that when I exercise consistently three times a week and drink plenty of water I don’t get them as often.

I must admit, computers are the worst cause of a headache for me. That’s why I can’t sit in front of it for more than 2hours straight. I find that my head starts to ache and I just ain’t getting the enjoyment I could.

CA, MSG, lack of sleep and or food are three of my many triggers and you are so right we should try to avoid our triggers. I am going to try the vinegar one if I am at home when the next one strikes. I get them from cigarette smoke and fragrances too. These are two that are hard to avoid when you have 500 co-workers or so.

These all good points. I want to add that you can also put the ice pack on your neck behind your head, this is where tension headaches start and the muscles are tight. You can also massage, press your thumbs at the base of your head to relieve pressure.

These tips are incredibly easy to put into effect so thanks for sharing. I particularly like a little nap, drinking a lot of water and staying away from the telly or the computer because those are tried and tested and I must say when I do those 3 things when I have a headache, it goes away in an instant. Really good things to do for a bad headache.

After a bad migrane these past two days, I came back to your article searching for remedies. I tried a hot shower and it did relieve it for a while and I have a gallon of water in my room or office at all times so that way I don’t forget to drink. can’t workout unfortunately when I get headaches so as a result, I haven’t been to the gym these past two days. Tomorrow hopefully I will since I do want to write my part 2 story on creepy guy that all of you enjoyed. Tylenol doesn’t do anything for me. I did buy two good feather pillows at Macys today see if that helps. the vinegar suggestion thanks. didn’t know about that. Great informative article.
