How to Make Your Bowel Movement Regular

Having a regular bowel movement makes one healthy. But if you’re having an irregular bowel movement, here are some tips on how to make it normal.

Most people believe that the regular or normal bowel movement of a person is having one movement a day, but that is wrong. What is “normal”may vary from one person to another, according to gastroenterologists. The ideal minimum average is 3 bowel movements a week, which can be once every other day. And the maximum average is 21 times, roughly 3 times a day. Less than 3 times a week may indicate constipation and more than 3 watery stools a day can be a sign of diarrhea. As long as you’re having regular intervals and your stool passes easily without pain, there’s nothing to worry about.

However, if you sometimes feel pain and your stool is hard and big, you need to regulate your daily diet to improve your bowel habits. Eating foods rich in fiber is the most common remedy for this. Here are some more tips:

 1.  Cut down on sweet foods.

Sadly, sweets or desserts, such as cakes, ice cream, cookies, and pastries, can cause constipation, which leads to irregular bowel movement. Foods that are high in sugar tend to be low in fiber, thus making your stool hard and difficult to pass.

 2.  Cut down on fats.

Fatty foods, such as pizzas, burgers, and meat, are considered as “hard to break down”. They make your digestive system work harder, thus leading to constipation. They are known to be low in fiber too.

 3.  Drink lots of fluids.

We all know that drinking lots of fluids, especially water, helps a lot in having a normal bowel movement. Fiber, the most important nutrient we need to have a regular bowel movement, works best when your body is getting enough water. Drinking 8-10 glasses a day is recommended for people suffering from constipation.

Following these diets will help you have a better, easier and normal bowel movement. Live a healthy life!
