How to Stay Warm

Winter is here, and you want to find out how to keep yourself warm, and help the environment at the same time? Then this article is for you!

First off, if you are inside, and you have windows, make sure they are closed, and if they have curtains, be sure to close them too, it will help keep the heat inside. You may want to purchase removable window-caulk or plastic to better seal them. At a minimum, stuff a towel or shirt in front of any noticeable leaks.

Be aware that the more you seal off air circulation to the outside, you increase the possibility of a dangerous buildup of carbon monoxide in the air — especially if you use natural gas or propane in the home. Be sure to install a carbon monoxide detector if you don’t have one already. If you do, be sure to test it on a regular basis.

Now, you should go look for something that you feel both warm and comfortable in, such as a hoodie, a longsleeve shirt, some track pants or a turtleneck sweater. You should also look for a nice warm hat, cotton does the trick, but if it gets wet, it will hold all the moisture.

If you’re still not feeling the heat, then get a kettle, fill it up with some water and put it on the stove on high until it boils, then just turn it down to low, just to keep the steam in the air, as this type of moisture will keep you feeling nice and cozy.

Humidity holds heat. Increased humidity will make a significant difference in your comfort level. Whenever you take a bath, leave the warm water in the bathtub to increase the humidity in the air.

A candle can produce a lot of heat, just be careful of where they are placed and don’t leave them unattended.

Wear some dark clothing, it absorbs the heat from the sun, and any other heat sources.

Another good idea is to take a nice nap, whether it be on the couch, or in your bed, be sure to get a nice blanket/comforter to get the heat to stay in your body.

I hope these tips will help you keep warm this winter, remember to stay safe!
