Infectious Diseases in Our Modern Age
According to my research, the CDC has identified a re-emergence of diseases that were thought to be wiped out. Among these are typhus, and recently in the news, outbreaks of tuberculosis.
Why are these illnesses re-emerging? This article will explore this question in depth.
First of all, let us define these illnesses. Tuberculosis is defined as an infectious disease of the lungs caused by mycobacteria. Other body systems affected by T.B. are the circulatory system as well as the central nervous system.
Typhus is defined as follows:
Any of several forms of infectious disease caused by rickettsia, especially those transmitted by fleas, lice, or mites, and characterized generally by severe headache, sustained high fever, depression, delirium, and the eruption of red rashes on the skin. Also called prison fever, ship fever, typhus fever.
How are these diseases spread and how do they affect us in our modern time?
Tuberculosis is spread mainly through close direct contact with an infected individual. Most people who have tuberculosis will wear surgical masks over their faces to prevent spreading it to those around them.
Typhus on the other hand, is spread through contact with body lice, fleas, and mites.Be aware that disease is no respecter of person, it can strike anyone given the opportunity. Therefore it is wise to take precautions, the number 1 reason diseases like H.I.V.,Tuberculosis, and typhus are spread is often human carelessness.
