Iron Allergies?
Reactions to iron.
Were you aware that iron could harm you in unsafe quanties? I didn’t. Nope….all I knew was that I was tired. Oh, I had been anemic, way back when I was pregnant with my boys. That has been some time ago. Still, I was tired and had always been told by my doctor that I would probably always BE anemic. Every time I had my blood drawn, it showed I was low in iron. So….who needs a doctor for that? You do, I do, everyone does.
It just so happens, I tried to self medicate myself. Yes, I thought all I had to do was buy some iron pills and B-12 and I was good to go. No, No I was not. Oh, at first I felt okay, but then I noticed that my stomach was just a little upset and a few other things. One night after stepping out of the shower, I noticed some type of upper body rash. Stress? Did my soap break me out? My mind was whirling about all the things I had come into contact with. All the time, every day popping my B-12 under my tongue and swallowing my iron pills 2x a day. When the bright idea came to me. The only new thing that I had begun was the B-12 and iron. Yes, I told my docotor I was taking it and told him I felt great. If you tell your doctor that, tell him what kind and how much. This I did not do. A light came on and I got on the internet. Low and behold, yes, you can actually posion yourself with iron. It is deadly if you don’t know how much and how often to take it.
It isn’t like a vitamin, you can’t just pop a couple into your mouth and go. Some folks do not absorb iron the way they should. If you have a genetic condition, that could be worse also. I am not a doctor (I just play one on t.v.) just kidding. Please consult your physcian before ever taking something over the counter. I have a rash that is all over my upper body. I have cut out completely the B-12 and the iron, until it goes away. If it doesn’t, then I have ruled out the things I purposely put into my body. Remember, iron can be dangerous, if you don’t know how much to take. Do the smart thing and consult a doctor, BEFORE taking over the counter remedies. It may save your life.
