Is Your Feces/stool Normal?

Do you know what a normal bowel movement is? Is your feces/stool normal? What are some of the abnormal bowel movements that you should pay attention to?

This is a continual piece of my feces article series: Are your feces healthy?, Are your feces healthy?2, Your child’s feces: healthy or unhealthy, Effective home remedies for treating hard feces/stool problems, constipation and irritable bowel movement, What your feces tell about your health  , what your feces tell about your health (part 2), what causes blood (or bright red blood) in your feces? and How does a bowel movement affect your feces/stool and health?.

Most people will spend lots of time looking for their favorable clothes or cars, but they seldom pay attention to their daily bowel movement. Some of them find discussing feces/stool embarrassing. Thus, they will avoid discussing what went wrong with their feces/stool. But, they never know that feces/stool is an important barometer that indicates one’s present health status.

Once a Day, OK?

Many people ask me: “Is that alright to have a bowel movement of once a day or twice a week?” Well, there is in fact no strict rule stating that one must have one movement a day as it varies from individual to individual. Definitely, a bowel movement of once a day is considered as normal for a healthy adult. Three times a day is still considered normal. However, if you have a bowel movement 4 times or more a day it is abnormal. In a case that you have 1-2 movement/s a week, it is a sign of constipation. Similarly, if you have three watery feces/stools a day it could be an indication of diarrhea. One bowel movement a day may not be true for everyone, but 1-3 easy-to-pass feces/stool is a definition of a normal movement.
