Job May Raise Cholesterol Level and Increase Risk of Heart Disease

You’ve heard about all the risk factors that can raise cholesterol levels and increase your risk of heart disease – too many fats in the diet, lack of exercise and so on.

But have you heard that your job could be influencing your cholesterol levels? Scientists warn that the risk of unemployment increases serum cholesterol concentration in middle-aged men.

So, men who work in companies or factories that are in danger of closing down or laying off workers have an increased risk of heart disease.

Apparently, stress seems to be one of the culprits behind the increased level of cholesterol in the blood.

Sleep disturbances also contribute to increases in serum cholesterol levels and a greater risk of cardiovascular disease. Men who are in danger of losing their jobs usually experience higher stress levels and have difficulty sleeping.

These two factors increase the cholesterol in their blood and increase their chances of heart disease. Men who may be in danger of losing their jobs should consider visiting their doctor.

The stress associated with unemployment often puts them at greater risk of heart disease, and the regular checkups may be helpful in monitoring their health.

  1. U have given true information…Thanks

  2. I’ve also read about the dangers of stress and just about everything can cause stress especially a job whether it’s working or losing the job.

  3. I agree, sometimes the job itself can cause so much stress, especially if the people in charge are idiots which seems typical these days!
    I enjoyed your article!

  4. A year ago while on Lipitor for my cholesterol, everything was within normal range. Over the past eight months I have been under so much stress, sometimes only sleeping between 2-4 hours on most week nights due to overwork and deadlines. I had my cholesterol checked and I went from a 195 cholesterol to 300, a 180 triglyceride to 439. I have actually lost 15 pounds in the past year and a half and my cholesterol and BP are not controlled. My guess is that this has caused my cholesterol to increase tremendously as well as my BP, just my opinion. I guess I need to slow down.
