Kids Health – Home remedy for flu

After a tiresome day at office any mother would feel bad looking at a sick child, but need to face the reality sometime. Common cold or Flu is one of the ailments which don’t get cured very easily even after proper prescribed medication. Flu takes its toll on the body before we get rid of it. Especially on kids it has adverse effects.


Some of the symptoms of common cold are

-          Running nose

-          Continuous sneezing

-          Coughing

-          Pain in the throat

-          Reddishness and itching in the eyes and nose

-          Difficulty in breathing

A person with common cold need not have all the above symptoms but most of those will be present. Kids with flu normally have common cold and sneezing.

Home remedy:

Home remedy for flu does not involve anything rare but you can get mostly from the kitchen shelves or the cupboard or from your back yard garden.

One of the easiest ways is to get a vapor-rub and mix with coconut oil. Take a spoon of this mixture; apply on the feel of the baby. Rub until the foot becomes hot and then make him wear socks. If the kids do not like this try doing the process while he is sleeping. The vapor-rub and coconut oil mix gives a soothing cold mixture.

If your kid coughs regularly then mix 3 pinches of powdered pepper with a spoon of honey and give that to your kid. This gives a immediate relief to the sore throat.

Another remedy for cough is, turmeric. If your kids drink milk regularly at night mix a pinch of turmeric and pepper powder and make him drink the mixture. This again gives a soothing relief to the throat and relieves him from continuous coughing.

Eucalyptus oil is another very good medicine for lot of ailments. You can add two drops of eucalyptus oil to a bucket of hot water. Make your kids take bath in this water, it would give him nasal relief and he can sleep peacefully. For adults you can even add 1 spoon of eucalyptus oil to 2cups of boiled water and allow the person to take the steam. This would clear the nasal block and allow the person to breathe freely.

Camphor is another replacement for vapor-rub if you feel that your kid cannot tolerate a strong vapor-run.  Take a spoon of coconut oil and heat it over the flames for 10 seconds. Once it is considerably hot add a piece of camphor to it. The smell coming from this would give relief to the block nose and also the mixture can be applied to the chest and back. Breathing this mixture would give an extensive relief to the suffering child.
