Leptospirosis: How to Avoid Contacting It
Illnesses which is prevalent during rainy season like leptospirosis can be prevented with precautionary measures.
Leptospirosis is a bacterial illness common in the tropical countries. Since rainy days has come some areas of Southeast Asia is being flooded. And Leptospirosis is a potential problem in these areas. If you happen to live in one of these flooded areas, here are some of the important precautions to protect yourself from this illness and some bodily signs to watch.
First, you should not take this opportunity to dip yourself and have fun in the water. Especially to areas where heavy rain is experience once in a while as stored infected urine from rodents can be mixed with the rain water. Parents should not allow their children to swim also. They are the most vulnerable victims of this illness. They might accidentally swallow some infected water.
If it is not avoided to deep oneself in the accumulated infected rain water, wear waterproof rubber boots. This will prevent one from having skin contact with it.
Another is to use rubber boats when going out for necessities. This is another way of getting rid to be wet. The contact with the water and length of exposure with it are the ways one may get infected especially if you have wounds.
In cases, you were exposed with the contaminated water, watch for any bodily signs like fever, chills, headache, nausea and vomiting, eye inflammation and muscle pains. In cases, you feel this signs and symptoms, consult your physician at once.
Leptospirosis is an illness which can be avoided if extra precautions are observed. Staying at home if your place is flooded, wearing of protective gadgets and adopting transportation suited during rainy days are ways to prevent it. It is safer to do some preventive measures rather than spending for the cure.

Two weeks ago, we had two terrible storms in a row. Until now there were still flooded areas. A lot were homeless. Sad thing is, many sick people now are in the evacuation centers. Aside from colds and flu, some have leptospirosis, and mostly contaminated by the bacteria are the children. Leptospirosis, however, can be avoided even if you are living in squatter areas.
