1. Dr. Hugo W. Moser –
Switzerland Dr. Hugo Wolfgang Moser (October 24, 1924(1924-10-24) – January 20, 2007) was an eminent research scientist whose studies and discoveries are still widely renowned in the field of peroxisomal disorders. His greatest feats were his contributions to the development of Lorenzo’s Oil. In the beginning, Hugo was the doctor who had diagnosed Lorenzo Odone with ALD back in the 1980’s. As the disease progressed, Hugo advised a number of treatment options and diets, but all to the aggravation of the Odones. Eventually, after an intimate talk with Mr. Odone, Hugo was eventually swayed by Augusto’s evidence and research and proposed his theory to his colleagues. The end product of Hugo’s and the Odone’s hard work: Lorenzo’s Oil. After becoming aware of Lorenzo, Dr. Hugo Moser continued to focus his research in the field of such genetic disorders. One goal Hugo had set was to develop a way to diagnose ALD in children at birth. For nearly all his work, Hugo chose to work with his longtime research partner, and wife, Ann Monti Lou Brigham. At the age of 82, Dr. Hugo Moser died of complications from a surgery to treat his pancreatic cancer. Once he passed away, Hugo’s work on adrenoleukodystrophy at the Kennedy Krieger Institute was passed down to his clinical partener, Dr. Gerald Raymond.
2. Dr. Judalon
Dr. Judalon is a fictional character that only appears in the film Lorenzo’s Oil. In the film, Dr. Judalon is the doctor who diagnoses Lorenzo with ALD. Contrary to cogent evidence, Dr. Judalon is the man who diagnosed Lorenzo while Dr. Moser, the true “diagnoser”, is the scientist who prescribes Lorenzo a few treatment options and a special diet that eliminated certain dire fats. All in all, Dr. Judalon may represent an overseen doctor whose role in Lorenzo’s Oil’s development was significant, though not publicized.
