October, Breast Cancer Aware Month
Awareness is just one step in prevention, communication is the second most important step!
October, Breast Cancer Aware Month
Breast Cancer affects million of women yearly, along with alarming their family and friends; to the point that here in New York, the youth are being made aware of the deathly but treatable cancer.

Children as young as ten years old are being taught about cancers, and in October they dedicate the month to those who have died from breast cancer, those who are suffering from breast cancer and, I saved the best for last those who survived Breast Cancer. Even Daisy’s and Brownie’s in Girl Scouts are learning that the pink ribbons stands for Breast Cancer, as they work their little fingers crossing the pink ribbon, then they glue them and attach a tiny safety pin to the back; of course all under the supervision of the adults that help out the fine little girls. These young girls are not too sure exactly why they are making these ribbons, but they do know that they doing something for good. In the pubic schools, kindergarten children are aware that Breast Cancer is bad, especially since many young students have already felt the affects of Breast Cancer in their family, whether it is the Aunt or Grandmother; many have lost their mothers at such a tender young age.
Young girls in sixth and seventh grade are being taught the important of Breast Cancer awareness, and instruct them to go home and speak to an adult about Breast Cancer and examinations. Years ago, I don’t believe parents had the ability, understanding or relationship with their children that we have with our children today, to simply come home and ask questions about Breast Cancer, and how does a women detect it; back then sex was really never discussed; at ALL!
The fact that we do live in an open society, where people feel more comfortable speaking about sex, AIDS and Breast Cancer is a benefit for us all. Young girls who learn about breast examinations and how to self check her breast, are able to detect if there is something wrong very early in their life. Then as they grow older they are able to detect any changes in their breast that should be brought to their doctors attention, immediately.
For a young girl, that is why awareness is just as important as communications; being aware of a problem and being able to communicate it to their parent or doctor is the first step in taking charge of any type of situation.

This was a very great article. I agree that we should all be aware of breast cancer. My grandmother was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, but luckily she only had a small amount of it and she didn’t need chemotherapy. She is almost finished getting radiation.
