Swine Flu Cases Continue Rise
As swine Flu cases continue to rise, so do the number of reported deaths. Exactly how much should you be worried?
The Swine flu which is commonly referred as the H1N1 virus has currently been spreading worldwide and is continuing to cause more deaths. Currently, the alert level is at a phase 5 which is barely being short of a full blown out pandemic. Also, cases currently are showing to be more mild than the 1918 Spanish Flu Pandemic. That is because it lacks the killer traits of the 1918 Spanish Flu Pandemic. Instead, it is showing to be more like the 1957 pandemic which killed 2 million people worldwide.
The annual Flu kills about 250,000 to 500,000 people in the world each year. Furthermore, WHO predicted that if it does be like the 1957 Asian Flu Pandemic, about 14.2 million people will die of about the 2 billion people that will probably be infected. But there are still some fears that in the fall the Swine Flu may mutate and be like the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic which killed over 50 million people. If that does happen, WHO predicted that more than 250 million people would die. But these are only predictions. It does not necessarily mean that this will happen. For all we know this may be like the 1976 Swine Flu Scare which killed one soldier and infected about 500 others before it surprisingly disappeared. Currently, the reported cases of swine Flu worldwide are at 8480 in 39 countries, while the reported deaths are currently at 66 in Mexico, 1 in Costa Rica, and 5 in the United states. Although there is still no certainty that a pandemic will occur, it is very likely so you should take preparations for it and be ready if the pandemic does happen. It is always better to be ready than caught off guard.
