There is a new variety of flu that reached pandemic stage on June 11, 2009. The official name in h1n1 swine flu, this flu is usually found in pigs. The pandemic probably started from a pig transmitting it to a human, starting the chain of human transferring to another human.
Swine flu originated in Mexico, but it eventually came to Southern Californa and San Antonio, Texas.
The swine flu is spread by droplets coming from a person sick with swine flu. This can hapen when talking, coughing or sneezing.
he pandemic was recently raised from a 5 to a 6. That meeans countries that never saw it before are getting it.
The Center for Disease Control is preparing for it this winter. They are preparing so much that they have a vaccine that should be soon if it already isn’t available. The good news is they found that adults need only one dose, which means that there are more doses to go around.
Some symptoms are headaches and body aches, fever above 100.4 degress F.
If a human catches it from a pig instead of a person, it is called a zoonotic disease.
Started in Mexico, it spread to 168 countries, with about 162,000 dying from it, 1,154 people died so far in the U.S.
The ways to avoid swine flu is to wipe surfaces in your house with disinfectants and it can’t be stressed enough that you should practice good hygiene, wash your hands a lot or use a hand sanitizer on your hands.
It has hit Australia particulary hard. It has hit mostly younger people. As a result schools and movie theaters have closed.
If you have a weak immune system, be careful as you can catch bacterial diseases such as pneumonia.
