Symptoms of Swine Flu

With the H1N1 pandemic, everybody is asking the same questions: Do I have it?

First off, it’s worth noting that swine flu is nothing more than a strain of influenza. Very much like the more common seasonal flu, it won’t be so much a problem anymore once our bodies build up a defense towards it. The only difference is that it’s “newer” and our bodies haven’t had time to adjust.

This isn’t to say that swine flu is a minor issue, but the symptoms are very close the a regular flu’s symptoms:

  1. A high fever usually occurs, especially towards the beginning of the infection
  2. Runny/stuffy nose
  3. Muscle/joint aches
  4. Chills
  5. (Extreme) Fatigue
  6. Headache
  7. Cough
  8. Diarrhea/ Vomiting –Usually not seen in regular flu, but occurs more with swine flu

If you show any of these symptoms, it’s best to take some rest, and avoid contact with other people. A swine flu vaccination is available; talk to your doctor about it.

If the symptoms get worse, or additional symptoms appear beyond those listed, it would be a very good idea to see a doctor. They can take tests and tell you for sure if you have it or not.
