The vitiligo patients skin develop patch of de-pigmented skin. The patch may grow bigger or remain constant in size.

Many symptoms that we can see from the patient of vitiligo, some of them got the white patch on their hand, feet, arm, genital organ or even worst on the face. As we know many people suffer from this disease, it includes the famous person like Michael Jackson, Thomas Lennon and Doc Hammer. Which mean this disease is where ever in the world.

For many years, there is almost no treatment for vitiligo. Nowadays, scientist and dermatologist have come with a new idea on how to cure vitiligo effectively. The most popular treatment for vitiligo is a laser vitiligo treatment, which is popularly known as phototheraphy vitiligo treatment.

The treatment is to expose the vitiligo skin area to ultraviolet (UVA) from the sun or from the UVA lamp. Lately, the treatment is use the Narrowband UVB lamp, which is more effective to cure the vitiligo and make the vitiligo patients smile again. 1. do you suffer from this disease? please share your experience..

  2. I’m keep searching for the best cure for vitiligo, i think uvb is the best method..

  3. I start to develop vitiligo on July 07. Try many different presribed cream and didn’t really work. Right now my only treatment is UVA light, but that doesn’t seem to work either. Maybe I have to wait for awhile to see an effect (3 months already).

  4. Nomarly, the treatment will take some time.. maybe up to years to fully cure, depend on the treatment frequency and the vitiligo itself. other way to treat vitiligo is using PUVA, the different is a little amount of mediline paint will be apply at the affect area before getting treatment with light. check here for detail http://effectivevitiligotreatment.blogspot.com/

  5. new method that i’ve found to treat vitiligo vitiligo surgical

  7. Vitiligo shouldnt be such a hinderance on someone’s life. I have had it for over 10 years and consider it a blessing that I am able to live and be healthy with a “disease.” Be happy with yourself and accept the disease. Dont be so quick to find a cure. The imperfections in us are what make us beautiful.

  8. I have vitiligo now for four years..When it began to spread I took neem tablets and it stopped spreading within a week. In USA, there is no treatment for vitiligo..They give you elidel/protopic and the pigmentation is not permanent..From then onwards, I am trying to pigment the affected areas..not much luck..Narrowband UVB produced the best benefit. I posted my details in Englishforums but I could not find the link now..I prettymuch tried everything in the internet, form homeo, herbal, chineseetc etc..no use..the latest I heard is that black pepper is good if applied..

  9. I am a vitiligo patient, although its in the initial stages.i have marble sized spots on my legs, hips and now its starting to appear below my chin.strangely enough iv noticed that if appears on the left…..soon enough it starts appering on the right side as well that too on the exact place.I got it on bothsides of my legs ans hip area.I started using a local medicine….and now the spots are slowly diminishing.Hopefully its gonna go away forever. But my major concern i…..will it ever stop appearing on other unaffected areas???Besides the medicine im using is just for application.I have nothing to consume to prevent the furthur possibilities of it from appearing on other prts.I wonder if pills for consumption are required???

  10. I have tried many tx for Vitiligo, and have the best results with UVB and UVA light txs. A few weeks ago I tried UVA (commercial tanning bed) and have excellent results. (Many new freckles showing on my arms! in 3 weeks!) I am treating two times a week at 8 minutes now. It is a lot more cost effective than the UVB txs through my Derm, and more conv.

  11. Sadly that vitiligo treatments take long time to see tthe effect. For the instant resolution I think that the surgical procedure is a great ideas. But All vitiligo surgical therapies must be considered only after proper medical therapy is provided. Vitiligo surgical techniques are time-consuming and expensive and usually not paid for by insurance carriers. They are appropriate only for carefully selected patients who have vitiligo that has been stable for at least 3 years. more details on http://effectivevitiligotreatment.blogspot.com/2007/11/surgical-therapies.html (copy this link and paste to you adress tool bar)

  42. Hello! I’ve had vitiligo for about two n a half years now. I only have it on the left side of my body on my arm, back and chest. I hateeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee it with a passion. When it started to appear, I went to the doctor and was prescribed to take elidel, protopic, and some other cream(don’t remember the name). My doctor told me that it could be caused from stress or thyroids. Basically they didn’t work for me but when i stopped using the creams it spreaded even more. I am really stressed over it and try to hide it all the time. Please help me out and let me know what the best treatment would be.

    Thanx, D.H.

  43. Guys
I have it in my hands
I think I was able to slow it using Vitamin B6 Foilc Acid and Vitamin C tablets, daily
A new cure is the Excimer Laser, high power concentrated UVB laser, its not new but the machine is new (XTRAC made by Photomedex)and is in use to cure vitligo patches in the US though not enough history on whether the cured patches will remain cured is there at this time (2009) however one Doctor said this does not prevent other areas from losing color so the best is to use multiple approaches and not lose faith
    I would advise this
    a. Use the Vitamins
    b. Minimize exposure to Sun
    c. Try getting Gigko Biloba
    d. Get the Laser if you can afford it, it normally takes 3 sessions a week for 6 months to do this
and pray that we will all get rid of this awful ailment

  56. Anyone have positive repigmentation results from Melagenina Plus? Please share your experience!

  57. Vitiligo is a very mysterious disease. Doctors know why, but not what causes it. From my personal experience, here is what I believe triggers my vitiligo so far: 1. mood, 2. diet, 3. environment. For example, stress, depression, spicy foods, shellfish, (ie, crab, shrimp), alcohol, intense sun exposure are all factors that I try to stay away from. It may be a combination of these things, or an excess of one.

Often western medicine will initially prescribe topical steroid ointments to treat vitiligo. I’ve tried it with no positive results. At times, the corticosteroids seem to have an adverse effect. It seems that once you use the ointment, you have to keep using it, otherwise the hypopigmented area will spread.

UVB narrowband light treatments seems to repigment well, but I think the UVB light simply causes the surrounding melanocytes from nearby to overproduce melanin, thus giving the impression of repigmentation. Therefore the phototheraphy is only a temporary solution, because the color will most likely fade once these light sessions are halted.

If I had to do it all over again, I would go the eastern medicine route first. Because I believe vitiligo is more than skin deep, it starts within the body and expresses itself outside on the skin. Eastern herbal medicine tries to detox and realign the balance in your body first. It can be a slow healing process, but I find it less abrasive than steroids. Since I believe vitiligo stems from a build up of certain negative factors over time, it needs to take some more time again to reverse the damage.

In other words, western medicine tries to heal by external means and eastern medicine tries to heal from internal means. I simply believe the solutions starts from within the body because that is where the problem originated from. The skin is just visual sign of something going wrong internally.

I am not saying one treatment is better than the other. However, I am simply sharing my vitiligo experience. There is no known single cure for vitiligo. Everyone responds to respective treatments differently. Above all, I hope vitiligo sufferers like myself can stay positive throughout! :)

  59. hi everyone
i am a vitiligo patient according to my research we get vitiligo by the following reasons
tight clothing and friction of the skin this is how michal jackson got it
    deficiency of b complex
pulling hair(un wanted by electric machine or waxing on the genetial area this is how i got it
    stress

i have one more idea for the friends who have it on all over the body (50 OR 75 percent ) before taking the option of bleaching yurself which can cause cancer try to scratch a hidden part of the body which already has vitiligo this way it will definitely spread if it does try the rest and hope fully u will b white all over without bleaching yurself all the best

  61. I just read that vitiligo is caused by damage or partial necrosis of the liver. I have been treating my liver myself, bathing with 2 drops of carrotseed essential oil (to heal) and 2 drops of lavendar oil (to relax). I have used carrot seed cream (Burt\’s Bee\’s) for a recent eczema condition and have made red clover tea and dandelion tea to help clean the blood. Eat only gluten free bread products. Sesame seeds clear parasites. All of this has cured the constipation. I plan to do some cleanses (gallbladder) and the Master Cleanse (organic lemon juice, maple syrup and organic cayenne pepper). Simultaneously, I will juice Organic parsley, romaine, celery, cilanto, bananas, lemons, apples & pears & a little water. I take Neem capsules and apply neem cream. I believe the healing will come mostly from within. I did purchase bio-piperine (long black pepper tablets).

  68. I’ve had vitiligo for over 11 years. I had the “light treatments” back in 1998, while it worked for a few years it has since returned. Nothing seems to help now not the Protopic nor the light treatment. For anyone who is willing to try it a few years back I took folic acid and B complex after reading a book written by Dr Atkins. That worked in stopping the progression of it. I apologize I don’t know the name of the book but you can Google it, its his book on supplements I think it’s called Vita Nutrient Solution. Like I said it was effective in stopping the progression, it’s a cheap alternative to proptopic.

  69. what is your treatment. I am desi and has been suffering for 13 years.
    thanks,
    Jay

  70. I’m 15 and I’ve had vitiligo for 1 year the longest, and it’s gotten worse, but slowly, I have it on my hands some, one on my hip, around my eyes, my genitals, and on my left knee. It’s very noticeable and I hate it so much, I go through a lot of stress as is, and this is causing even more, I’ve seen a lot of cream’s and stuff and oils to help, but that obviously won’t stop the progression of the disease. Does anyone know something I can do ? Can anyone help ? I haven’t talked to a doctor yet, my mother doesn’t care enough to take me, so I’m hoping to find something on here. This effects me in many ways, my efficiency in school, depression, every day things, I just want it gone, if you can help, contact me by emailing me, Ihaveissues297@aol.com ..E-mail was made as an inside joke but that doesn’t matter, thank you if you can help!!

  71. my dermatologit told me that phototherapy has only a 50/50 chance of success… :(

  76. I have vitiligo, im 14 years old and thankfully i only have it around my mouth, a lot on my belly, a little bit on my hands and alot in my pubic area. I feel super embarrased about this, not only that but im super white! and my mom says the best thing is to stay out the sun, well my quinces (a hispanic/latin tradition for when a girl turns 15) are this summer and i really want to get a nice goldish tan and i want to know some quick alternatives to tanning without harming my skin and some quick and effective treatments. please and thank you !

  77. I read your article and i am encouraged by your thorough knowledge of the skin disorder. I have been suffering from Vitiligo for the past 16 years. I does not seem to be getting any better, so i gave up on using the creams. My next step is to try the treatment in Cuba.

I will post udates on my progress.

  78. I have had vitiligo along with alopecia areata for almost 40 years. I am surprized that no one has figured out what the root cause and best cure is. I now suspect it is a symptom (rather than a disease) of severe vitamin D deficiancy. My theory is that vitamin d is so important to the human body that it (the body) has figured out how to remove pigment from the skin to get more UVB through to create vitamin D. Once you have acqured vitiligo it is tough to tell the body to re-pigment the area that has lost pigment. There could be a genetic predispodition as well as other causal factors. I am now experimenting with applying vitamin d oil to the area along with controlled noon time sun exposure for UVB.

I’ll try to let you know how it works.

  79. Hi:

Is there an effective treatment for Vitiligo. If there isn’t any, are we all just wasting each other’s time in trying to provide solutions that don’t work? I have vitiligo on my genitals and is causing me so much stress. I am a 40 year old male. I am contemplating to use the narrowband UV. Will this be useful? Can some one provide a sincere opinion?

    Thanks
    H

  80. I was recently told that dr. oz did a show on which some hpoe for or of a treatment, ihave had the condition for may years . Years ago when it first started Ihad aseries of ultra violet light treatments. There was no positive effect noted and the md said he felt there was no advancement in the treatment of the condition.I have not been able to locate the Dr Oz show that addressed it . Current and best treatment is a combination of UVB narrowband light treatment and a combination of a skin topical medicine called “Protopic”. Many dermatologist are not up to date. There are many “so called” cures but don’t be mislead. For the best information check out http://www.vitiligosupport.org. My vitiligo is going away but very slowly. I am placing Protopic on my skin 2 x daily and using UVB 2 x weekly. There is currently no faster nor better treatment at this present time. But be encouraged it does help but be you must be patient and consistent with the treatment.

  84. HI I HAVE A FIANCEE WHO HAS VIRTILIGO IN ABOUT 60% ALL OVER HIS BODY. HE HATES IT AND WOULD REALLY LIKE HELP AND IF YOU COULD PLEASE EMAIL ME WHAT YOUR UNCLE IS USING PLEASE!!

  85. Hi HA,

whatever you do, do not use uvb or any sun lamps on your genitals. I have seen numerous dermatologist and the skin there is very thin and sensitive you will most likey get an adverse reaction.

With the Uvb lamps you have to becareful how many minutes you use especially in home use, as 1 minute more can cause a sunburn reaction.

As for melangina plus I have been to cuba 7 years ago and I used the lotion only for 2 months, when I saw nothing was happening I gave up.

I am currently using narrowband uvb in my home aswell as protopic its definetly been the most effective treatment so far.

I heard diet can play a part so would appreciate anyone’s views on diets that work,

  90. Hi Sharon & All,

My name is Sachin. I am from India. I am suffering from this disease from a very long time. I am using “Ayurvedic” treatment. It has helped me a lot. There are many medical (Ayurvedic) practioner in India and they claim that they can cure it, however only few who has a good knowledge of Ayurvedic medicine can cure it. It takes time, however it works.

  94. After reading each and everyone posts on this website, it seem like there really no cure for vitiligo. I am also a vitiligo victim since 2007, and I have try every vitamins that people online had been talking about such as gingko biloba, vitamin b12, folic acid, vitimin d and none of them work. I had also try the remedy oil and it doesn’t work either. I was on light therapy for 10 months. It stalled my vitiligo but I didn’t see any spot repigment. After getting off the light therapy for about two years now, I notice my skin starting to develop more white spot or depigment again. I had also try elidel and protopic cream and oilment. No effect. Nothing work. All my vitiligo spots appear in the same area like every other vitiligo patients. I’m like everyone out there, wanting to know if there any treatment out there that can regain back my skin color

Recently, I just went on eBay and order an UVB light wand to give it another try to see if I can get back my skin color. It doesn’t hurt to keep trying. I also order a bottle of melagenina plus on eBay. Hopefully I see a good result. Pray for me

  100. Jon, I think you are more than likely correct in thinking there is a connection between Vit D deficiency and vitiligo. The newly formed Vitamin D Council may shed some light on this in the future. I cannot believe how much info is on the web. It is a never ending trail. Are you undergoing any treatment at the moment? Thanks for your time. J. Richards

  101. have any of you tried black cumin seed oil? its really good for vitiligo

  103. ANY SPECIAL DOSAGE ON THE VITAMINS

  104. Hi everyone,

I’m also a vitiligo sufferer like you. Ive had it for 3 years now and just wana tell about my experience. I have white spots a size of a coin all over my shoulders. once I noticed it I rushed to the doctor who was stupid enough to assume that it was just a skin irritation. He started fooling me with different moisturizing creams and other rubbish which, of course, didnt work, my spots were only spreading.
Then I started searching in the internet and my worst fears came to be true – it IS vitiligo!! I collected enough proof and went to the doctor again. He gave me vitamins which didnt work at all, then told me to expose myself to the sun, which also didnt work. I tried different oil but still nothing.

Finally, he gave me the elidel cream. I used it for some time and it stopped the disease from spreading but didnt remove the spots. So I ordered a UVA lamp and used it for more than a year. Its very helpful, indeed, and relatively fast. Thanks to this lamp many of the spots were removed completely and some became smaller in size. So now out of 15 spots I have only 3 left.
The lamp isnt working on these 3 spots, I dont know why.
However, I stopped using the lamp a week ago and now Im going to try the black pepper. Many say that it is very effective. I’ll inform if there is any improvement.

I believe that this disease is connected to such things as stress and depression which is everywhere nowadays.
So it is very important to try to stay positive and dont panic (no matter how hard it is) because panic and stress may only worsen the condition. The only thing that really matters is your health so never give up. Try whatever is possible and believe in it.

jayjay, yes I tried the black cumin seed oil but I didnt have the patience and, seeing no improvement, I gave it up after 1 month. Maybe it is just slow and needs more time. If the pepper wont work I’ll come back to the cumin seeds :) ))

  105. Hi. I’ve tried several things to treat my vitilago but nothing works. Been to dermatologist and they gave me clobetasol and protopic but it does not work. I’ve even done the the UVB room and they only put me in there 30 seconds at a time and slowly increase. Its frustrating driving 35mi one way for a 1min max session 3 times a week. Have you heard of Melagina Plus? Do you know where I can get it?

  106. What I was told that your B12, Zinc, Copper, Folic Acid, and Iodine should be evaluated if you suspect a vitamin deficiency leading to vitiligo. I also would ask you to ask your doctor to test certain food allergies as a cause (gluten/celiac). The regular insurance many not cover this. But if you find that you are allergic to certain food items (such as milk or turmeric), then it would help you avoid such allergies as well.

Under ayurvedic treatment (from India), the primary cause for vitiligo is food incompatiability that makes your body turning against it self (under modern medicine it is called auto immune). Mind you, India has the most vitiligo sufferers in the world. Because of this, there is more research going on in India now.

I am not a doctor, but I have a relative who has been just diagnosed with vitiligo and I have spent a lot of time researching about it.

  107. So afer reading all of the above, the sad fact remains that there is still no cure for this disease. I could go anywhere in the world and pay any price for proper treatment, but I do not know where to go. Some say Cuba, others say India!!!!. Why is it taking so long to find a cure? My brother, my nephew and I have Vitiligo. I was shocked when I got it about 2 years ago. I seeked treatment in Egypt and Indonisia and spent so much money but with no results. I tried UVA and UVB but did not work. Any good advice please?

  108. HI ca you please tell me your outcome. My son is 3 1/2 and I was told that hes vitiligo but I have been told by a 2 other docotors they don’t think thats what it is. Your input would be so helpful.

    Thank you,
    Martha

  109. Does anyone have real experience of curing vitiligo fully?. My daughter has tried various treatments except UV. Over the last 4 years it has only spread more. Can anyone provide any kind of advise
