The Heat Wave in The South

This is a record breaking heat wave. It truly is a hot topic. It is hot and dry here in south Louisiana. We must learn to keep ourselves hydrated. Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration.

You should never try to debate the why and how we have arrived such an extreme heat wave. Just know that it is happening and learn how to deal with it. It’s called adapting to the environment. Are you thinking about the damage that humans are causing to the Earth that is speeding up the global warming process? It’s a bit late for that. Summer is knocking at the door, but many are saying it is already here. The humidity combined with the extreme heat really makes it worse. Even a breeze does not help much because it stirs up more heat.

Many people are quite active in the summer months. It is really important to stay hydrated. Dehydration can lead top serious medical complications if the condition is left untreated. You can become dehydrated if your body loses an excessive amount of body fluids. During this heat wave, some early signs that you may be dehydrating are headaches, dizziness, low blood pressure, dry skin, dry mucous membranes, yellowing of the eyes, unconsciousness, thirst, discomfort, loss of appetite, rapid heart rate, fatigue, and high body temperature. If dehydration is not treated, it can cause death. Pay special attention to children as well.

Do a little rain dance to invoke rain to shower upon us. No, I think you will be waiting for a while, and dancing a long time. Try to keep cool as possible by getting some shade if you are outside for a while. Protect you head from the scorching sun. Carrying an umbrella may help a bit. Drink plenty of water or drinks that can replace your lost electrolytes. Gatorade is a perfect drink. Wear cool clothing. All these things will help to cool you a bit. Eat healthy light meals like a cool summer salad and fresh fruits like watermelon. If you do not have to be outside, well that is a good thing. There are quite a few people who go to work in the heat because their job consists of outside activity. Wearing sunscreen will help protect those who must be in the heat for a while. If you begin to feel fatigued or overworked, then you should take time out to rest and refresh yourself. Your health is important to you.

Those who are profusely sweating should rest in shade and drink fluids. Heat exhaustion, dehydration, and heat stroke can kill you. You can have a lot of summer fun in the sun only if you know how. Beware of crazy drivers as well. Those who are in a rush to get out of the heat and go somewhere cool can be quite dangerous on the road.
