The New Form of Malaria

Malaria has being a threat to humanity for many years. It is killing millions of people yearly and the World Health Organization (W.H.O) having being helping countries most especially the Africans to combat  it threat on the people. The parasite plasmodium Knowles is thought to having been affecting monkeys only. But recently research has shows that’s the parasite has dominated in Malaysia and so many people have gotten infected  and if not treated quickly it can kill. This new form of the disease has so far been concentrated  in the southeast of Asia , the researcher warns that tourism to the region could soon see cases appearing in western countries too.

There are three species of malaria parasite that often cause disease in human, P.falciparum found most commonly in Africa , is the most deadly. Another parasite, P.malariae, found in trophical regions across the globe,it has symptoms that are usually less serious.

P. Knowles had been thought only to infect monkeys in particular long tailed macaques found in the rain forest of south east Asia.

At the university Malaysia Sarawak the research shows that p. malariae and p. knowlesi when observed under the microscope  but p. knowlesi has the ability to reproduce every 24hours in the blood meaning infection is potentially deadly.

Researcher, Professor Balbur Singh said this means early diagnosis and treatment  is essential. Test was carried out on over 150 patients admitted in to hospitals in sawarak, Malaysian bornea  between july 2006 and January 2008 with malaria infection.it was discovered that p.knowlesi is affecting the people more than they think
