Benefit of broccoli for cancer has long been a concern of scientists. In a recent research, it is stated that broccoli and cabbage can increase the life expectancy of breast cancer patients, and even delay the recurrence of cancer.
I heard ex-President George W. Bush does not like to eat broccolli. Lucky for me and friends like to consume broccoli. Why? Beside delicious, broccoli is good for health, especially for women.
Recently conducted research in China on 5.000 women aged 20 -75 years old who was diagnosed with breast cancer found that those who often intake vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, or mustard, the risk of dying from breast cancer 62 percent lower. Among other benefits, the risk of disease recurrence is also 35 percent lower.
Breast Cancer Patients should limit alcohol (four glasses a week) and sugar, and eat more vegetables and less red meat consumption. Alcohol and physical inactivity are the two factors known to increase of risk of breast cancer.
These are the reasons why broccoli is good for fighting cancer:
1. Broccoli acts as a chemotherapy agent. Its action is mostly on proliferation,
apoptosis and angiogenesis.
2. Broccoli contains high levels of sulforaphane which can kill cancer stem cells and Prevent the disease from developing, or spreading when it is established.
3. Broccoli is particularly good for breast cancer and uterine cancer, as it removes the extra estrogen from the body. This is due to the presence of strong anti-carcinogens like glucoraphanin, diindolylmethane, beta-carotene, selenium and other Nutrients like vitamin C, vitamin-A and vitamin-E, zinc, potassium and Certain amino acids, the which are also good anti–cancer agents.
4. Broccoli is a good source of vitamin C and one of the nondairy source for calcium. It is loaded with phytochemicals and antioxidants the which makes it one of the vegetables the which can help in preventing cancer and other heart diseases.
