Three Most Common Eye Problems

Here is a brief description of some common eye diseases.

The three most common eye problems teens suffer from involve blurred vision, headaches, dizziness and difficulty seeing at night or in the dark. If you experience any of these symptoms, have an eye examination done immediately (if detected early, your eye problems can be corrected!). Our eye lenses begin to lose their flexibility as early as when we’re 10 years old, and depending on genetics and individual physical condition, this can progress to:

1. Nearsightedness (Myopia): when distant objects look hazy.
Reason: Either your cornea (eye lens) is too steep or your eyeball is too long.

2. Farsightedness (Hyperopia): when nearby objects appear fuzzy.
Reason: The opposite of myopia, either your cornea is too flat or your eyeball is too short.

3. Astigmatism: both nearby and distant objects are perceived to be blurry.
Reason: irregular curvatures in your cornea prevent light from focusing on a single point.
