HIV means Immunodeficiency Virus. Why AIDS means Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome.

HIV is a transferable disease. It is a disease that attack immune system cells. It destroys the important cells that fight diseases and infections. Some people are suffering from it without knowing. It is believe to have originated   from chimps. HIV gradually develops into AIDS.

CAUSES/TRANSMISSION

·         Having unprotected sex with an infected person

·         Blood transfusion with infected blood

·         Sharing contaminated sharp object like razor blade, hair clipper, injection needle etc.

·         Mother to child during pregnancy

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS

Ø  Fever

Ø  Nausa and vomiting

Ø  Tiredness

Ø  Cough

Ø  Diarrhea

Ø  Weight loss

Ø  Swollen lymph glands

Ø  Anemia

Ø  Lipodysrophy

Ø  Stroke

Ø  Rash

Ø  Sore throat

Ø  Headache

TREATMENT/MANAGEMENT

For now there is no permanent treatment. But the following tends to help

ü  Use of antiretroviral drugs

ü  See a doctor

PREVENTION

v  Having protected sex (condom)

v  Having one sex partner

v  Abstaining

v  Use sterilize sharp object.
