Website Watch: Migraine.org.uk
A migraine headache is a debilitating condition and if you, or someone you love, is a sufferer or thinks they may have migraine headaches then this website is an important resource. This is part of the Website Watch series.
A Migraine is a particularly nasty headache that affects around one in eight of the population and can leave a person completely debilitated both at the time of the attack and for a day or more afterwards. It is definitely not the same as a normal headache.
Access this website from the link above to find a large and comprehensive UK website devoted entirely to migraine, how to understand it, how to live with it and how to treat it. The website is not a commercial site, being funded by private donations and, to a lesser extent, by some UK government funding.
Going to the ‘About us’ page reveals links to who and what they are as well as links to various other areas such as publications and some official documents that explain the constitution of the organisation. Be aware that you will need to be a member of the site to download documents even if you are not advised of this by the download dialog. The membership links are also on this page and you can join for a nominal annual fee.
The ‘Migraine information’ page, find it on the right hand menu, takes you to a comprehensive and up to date explanation of what migraine is and how to tell if you are a sufferer. If you think that you may suffer from migraine then the links from this page will help you.
From here go to the ‘Migraine resources’ page accessed from the left hand menu, to find the very useful ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ and other relevant information along with links to headache resources for both migraine and other forms of headache.
To become a member or help in fundraising you can find pages in a similar way that will explain the procedure and tell you what you can do to help.
A newsletter is available for members and, if you are a member, the current issue can be downloaded.
A definite page to visit while you are there is the ‘Polls and Surveys’ page if only to see the results of past polls which contain some very useful information for sufferers.
There is a forum which can be accessed once an account has been created. Further information can be obtained from the Web Forum link on the main page.
Migraine headaches, to anyone who suffers, is a debilitating condition and if you or someone you love needs help then this is an important website to have as a bookmark. Overall, it is a very comprehensive site that answers most questions about migraine and gives access to a lot of information but you will need to be a member to take full advantage. For what it costs, however, this seemed a small price to pay.
