Weightlifting for Heart Health

Conventional wisdom is that the best exercise to improve heart health and maintaining a healthy cardiovascular sytem and thereby reducing the risk of stroke and heart attack were aerobic or so-called cardio workouts. Weightlifting is traditionally regarded as an anaerobic exercise, and as such was not thought to be the best choice for the health of the heart. But that is not thinking. Many medical professionals and personal trainers recognize the benefits of weight lifting has on the heart and lungs, especially when combined with traditional cardio workouts.

Many medical professionals and personal trainers recognize the benefits of weight lifting has on the heart and lungs, especially when combined with traditional cardio workouts.

While until recently actually cardiologist their patients from strength training and weight lifting discouraged, this view is changing. The recent American Heart Association published evidence that the benefits of working for the heart shows with weights.
