Most people would be more difficult to stop eating foods that are sweet and salty are often addictive. Why are sweet and salty foods can make people addicted?

Certain foods that contain sugar, salt and fat are specially formulated to attract consumers and lead to overeating and a tendency for addiction. This is because these foods activate parts of the brain that reinforce addictive behavior.

Dr. David Kessler, former commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) called these foods with ‘hyperpalatable’ which stimulates a person to eat more even when he did not feel hungry.

“Foods that are sweet, salty and fatty foods stimulate the brain to release dopamine is a neurotransmitter associated with pleasure center,” said Dr. Kessler, as quoted by the NYTimes on Monday (07/04/2011).

Dr. Kessler said that in the process of these foods will continue to stimulate the brain to dopamine will light up and make someone kept thinking about those foods that will trigger the craving for food.

Besides taste senses humans do crave sweet foods and salty from time to time, so more sugar and salt are eaten, then the desire to continue to eat is also getting stronger. This condition is just like someone addicted to nicotine in cigarettes.

Studies from Princeton and the University of Minnesota proved when consuming sugar then part of the brain that are activated as a drug addict wants heroin.

The body will learn to want and need more substance to make her feel better. This proves that sugar addiction as powerful as drugs.

If you think addiction is continually arise then it can lead to obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure (hypertension). Such diseases are known to cause various complications.

For that community is expected to start to reduce intake of sugar and salt gradually, for example by avoiding eating in front of the television makes a person overeating and reduce stress.
