Down Syndrome: Special Kids for Special World
I am touched with the people who are diagnosed as Down syndrome. And, this article is especially made by them. I also wanted to educate the parents who have kids with the same diagnosis.
I have seen people who have Down syndrome mostly in schools since I was in elementary school. As a matter of fact, people with Down syndrome can go to regular school, but they need special attention for their learning because they cannot easily cope up with the lectures. There are also special schools that are recommended for the children with Down syndrome.
Down syndrome is caused by a problem with chromosomes. Supposedly, we only get 23 pairs of chromosomes from our parents, but a kid with Down syndrome gets an extra part of chromosomes that completes his 47 chromosomes. It has significant factor because it affects with the way their body develop. They may have medical problems such as heart defects, mental retardation, and etc. Anyone can have Down syndrome babies; but the older the mother, the greater the risk to have a Down syndrome baby.
Most children with Down syndrome have a good chance to live 50 years or more because through medical research, their other physical defects can be cured. Since they looked physically different, other normal children may bully or tease them. It hurts their feelings, and they also have emotions. They are in need of encouragement and helping hand. We may see people with Down syndrome in any kinds of career fields. They are hardworking, reliable, enthusiastic, and dedicated employees.
For the parents, it may considered as burdensome to have a child with Down syndrome. But, they needed to be educated. They must have proper knowledge on how to guide their children. These children can have a better future in this world. As I a said, they are special kids in this special world.
