How to Deal with Handicapped Children?

Handicapped children are different from others in our societies, but we must not differentiate between them and other kids.

Children with handicaps must be treated, as much as possible, as any other child. It is unfair when a handicapped child is not allowed to compete. We must help them to succeed, to not feel the difference! We have to teach them how to communicate woth others. How to learn, work, deal with people, and even how to smile. And how to make the world a better place for them.

If you stared treating the disabled child as pitied, then as much as you are expecting, probably little will come. On the other hand, if you expect him/her to succeed, to go forword and to act independently his/her chances in life will be better and he/she is gowing to grow successfully.

It is expected that the present generation, growing up in situations where handicapped are a natural part of school, work and community life, will get rid of the belief for ever that people with handicaps are  “different”.

Finally, we have to admit that the present development everywhere, is helping them acting like natural people. Where they can behave independently with a good self-confidence. Anyway,it’s not lousy to offer those children help, but too much helpmay become a hindrance among the child’s opportunities to practice independence.

  1. I totally agree, a child with a disability needs to be treated just like others in society, provide assistance where needed but also promote the idea of independance and a can do attitude to life.
