Only a Perfect Person Has No Disability

It is about my experience with people who have disabilities.

This is my first article. I choose to write about a real experience of mine. I work as a support worker for persons with a disability, now for almost six years. It is not an easy job to do. You have to be patient and understand every individual in the way he or she is. There are many types of disability and each disability has different problems.

From my own experience I noticed that many persons look at a person with a disability with compassion, like that they have the worst illness on earth, or stare at them, and that really frustrate them, they really feel like they are not accepted in the community and that they look abnormal.

I need to ask a question to the persons that think they are perfect and have no disability. Do you as a “normal” person have any eyeglasses? If yes, that is a type of disability, because you need the aid of eyeglasses to see clearly. Any type of imperfection on your body or in the 5 senses is a kind of disability, therefore only a perfect person has no disability.

As a support worker, I support the persons with a disability in their activities of daily living. I try to improve their own abilities to help them be more independent and improve their quality of life. First of all you have to have information on the person, like family background, the type of community he or she lives in because it affects the individual on how you have to deal with him. You have to know what type of degree are the disability, and the most important thing you need to know his family, if he or she has any family. It is important because the family is the best resource to know more about the person with a disability.

As a worker I have my duties to do with them, like teach them basic things like: washing hands before and after toileting, eating, wash glasses and plates, tooth brush teeth, cooking something simple, shaving, signing their name and surname, using important telephone number, teach them the importance of money and money value for not being theft by others and more things.

As a worker I do have my own initiatives too. I teach them how to use a computer, cultural outings; I invented programs with Microsoft power point to help them communicate more efficiently with us, etc.

It is very vast this subject, but for now I just write my experience with them hope that in the future I will write more in detail about disability because it is a very important issue.

  5. We need people like you! I’m moved by your concern for disabled people. It is also good that you speak from your own experience and heart connection to these people. It is moving and more understandable. My faith in human beings is always restored through someone like you. Keep on with the good work and God bless you.

  6. When you are able to do things never feel what disable people problems face.
Fate was cruel and I became disabled due to and accident.
Now I know what is it. Disable people compensate their physical constraint with other dimensions, man never know he has.
    Good site, thank you.
    Go to my favorites.

  8. Love what you have written. I think there is no one on this earth perfect, so one way or the other, we are all disabled…lol
My 14yr old son was born with Cerebral Palsy, he thinks he is normal and acts it. I would love for you to contact me to share my story.

  9. That is the most stupid comment i have ever read, how can one way or the other we are all abnormal. No there are people who are borned with challenges, unfortunately your son was borned with one of life challenges. But the rest of as are not in any way disable, if we have everything working the way it should. Some people are borned abnormal, but the others are normal .

  10. I agree its a good point that in one way or another we all have a type of disability, accepting our imperfect selves as well as others is a healthy thing to do.
