When some people hear the word “diet” they usually think of, salads, carrot sticks, stalks of celery, and doing without their favorite dessert. Our society has been bombarded with the diet craze. Special diets are not always for the overweight, diabetics, or heart patients.

A “diet” is defined as: the food and drinks that a person consumes to provide nutrition daily.

A persons diet has a huge affect on their overall health. A pH balancing diet is not just for weight loss. Balancing the pH in your body will improve your health in general and have a great impact on slowing the aging process.

What does pH and acid/alkaline foods have to do with aging? If we consume too many acidic foods our bodies cannot expel the accumulated waste, and toxins as effectively as it should. We burn nutrients within our cells to get energy, and maintain body temperature so that our bodies can function correctly.

This burning of nutrients creates natural acids, which are then expelled in the form of sweat and urine. These waste acids are not a problem if the body is functioning properly.

Stress from, lack of sleep, lack of exercise, overwork, and high acid diets (heavy in meat and dairy products) prevents our bodies from expelling these acids, opening the way for disease. When our pH level is unbalanced our bodies can create negative results such as cancer, heart disease, and premature aging.

Because of modern farming practices, the foods produced today are more acidic than they were in past years. The use of herbicides, and insecticides that seep into our ponds and streams and lingers in the soil, is what causes our food products to be more acidic.

Aging occurs because of the build up of acidic elements in the body. Healthy cells naturally have a slightly alkaline pH level, and since acid and alkaline are chemical opposites, high acid levels will destroy the cells.

To stop premature aging and reverse the affects of acidic damage on our cells, you must make your diet more alkaline.

Drink plenty of water, especially acid free alkaline water. You can create alkaline water yourself, with a water ionizer machine, for your home. You can also purchase acid reducing drops, to add to your drinking water. These drops are less expensive, and can be purchased at health food stores, or ordered online at health and vitamin sites.

The purpose of any pH balanced diet, is to encourage people to strive for a higher percentage of alkaline foods in their diet. Some examples of alkaline foods are: Broccoli, carrots, cabbage, onions, a variety of greens, celery and beets, and some fruits and berries. A handful of almonds make a great snack. Do not worry too much about watching calories, consume as much of the alkalizing foods you desire, and decrease your consumption of meat, dairy and grains.

Note: Alkaline foods promote healthy cells. -  Acid foods allow cancer cells to develop.
