11 Ways to Ease Tension
We all have tension. Here are some ways to ease it.
Work on your attitude
Changing the way you think-such as your reaction to a difficult task-can change your stress and discomfort. If I’m doing something that I am not looking forward to, I try to look at it as a challenge or as something I am looking forward to doing. That’s not always easy to do, but it is certainly worth a try.
Think about something else
Try to take your mind off whatever is bothering you. I usually read a book or watch a movie. You can feel free to use these or whatever you enjoy doing to take your mind off of your troubles.
Think positive
Instead of being negative about something turn it into something positive. The more you tell yourself that you are going to achieve something, the better your chances are of achieving it. You might feel better if you’re not focused on the negative things.
Take a mental vacation
Visualize yourself in a peaceful place. It’s amazing what this can do to help you relax.
Look away
Gaze out of a window for a few minutes. It gives you and your eyes a chance to get away from the problem. I try to do this everyday. I definitely try to do this when I am using the computer.
Take several deep breaths
When you start to feel stress coming on, take several deep breaths. Forcing yourself to breathe slowly convinces the body that the stress is gone whether it really is or not. When you inhale, your stomach should go out or expand. When you exhale, your stomach should go in (as if holding in your stomach).
Yell or Cry
If you are alone, screaming and crying might help. I wouldn’t recommend you doing this in public because people will look at you like you are crazy. LOL!
Massage your target muscles
Find your target muscles (most likely the back of your neck and your upper back) and massage them for a couple of minutes.
Press on your temples
This is an acupressure technique that uses pressure points to relieve pain and treats a variety of ailments. Massaging nerves in your temple relaxes muscles elsewhere mostly your neck. This is similar to the tip about massaging your target muscles.
Move around
Regular exercise can help battle stress. I try to walk around a room or walk in place. You can also try to dance to your favorite music.
Tune in the music
Music is a powerful too to fighting stress. I listen to a lot of music so this tip will help me out. Choose whatever music you like to listen to. It may help.
