Gold’s Gym
Dollar signs, pressure and lies.
A few years back, Gold’s Gym closed its doors to the public. Employees were shut out as well as health fanatics. No one had a clue what was going on. The local news reported, at least here in Dallas, Texas, that Gold’s Gym was in financial ruins and was filing bankruptcy. Gold’s Gym reported that they were closing most of its locations, but were going to keep a few independent locations open.
Here in Garland, the Gold’s Gym on the corner of Belt Line Road and Garland Road was open four days after the initial news clip. Several months later, Gold’s Gym reported that they were in great financial shape and were back in business, stronger than ever. Why do I bring up their financial history? To tell you that I wonder why Gold’s Gym isn’t still in bankruptcy.
I’ve taken it upon myself to be my own roving critic. With a Bachelors and Masters degree in psychology, I tend to see things that the average human being won’t. My sarcasm and cynicism has led me to be able to distinguish quality above all the rest—with food, with friends and with local services. I was injured back in April when a conference room television fastened to the ceiling came down and struck me on the neck and shoulders. I broke my collar bone, cracked a rib and fractured a disc on my thoracic spine. The doctor told me I was lucky to be alive, let alone be standing on my own.
With physical therapy coming to an end in a few weeks, I have been able to build up enough muscle to ease the pain when I stand, when I sit and when I move. Using the arm cycle, treadmill, limited free weights and hot/cold therapy, each day I get stronger in my ability to return to a normal life. Because physical therapy is ending, I decided it was time to find a gym where I could continue the exercises I had been doing. It’s no longer safe for a woman to walk at night for exercise, not even around her neighborhood. And, with the guilt factor of Gold’s being practically across the street, I could not hold out any longer.

I went to bally’s at Nw hwy and centerville, with the 7 days trial pass, went thru the b/s. they try to sell you a menbership before you tour the gym, asked me same questions and then
tell me that the sale advertisment was not that its was a small printed which allowed you to be there only those days printed on the voucher. I actually was able to used their facility for 15 mnts, I go home and have a clear mind, why I let him talk to me that way. I have not and will never make one step in the Gym. thank you
