How Men Over 60 Can Stay in Shape

Many men over 60 can stay in shape by following a healthy regimen, exercising regularly, and watching what they eat and drink. An active lifestyle will be beneficial to older men and will keep them feeling lively, instead of tired and sluggish if they are just sitting around.

According to widely publicized studies, not enough time is spent by men over 60 to stay in shape. Even with all the articles and advice written on keeping fit, it seems older men are not making enough effort to keep fit.

Of course people will not be as fast or as energetic at 60 as compared to a 20 year old. But it is a documented fact that fit 60 year olds can win races against much younger people. A man’s metabolism also change with age, so if a young man can eat like a horse, it will turn up as excess weight for men 60 years and older. Older men have to watch what they eat and work harder to burn them off.  The key to fitness and health in older men is eating and drinking in moderation.

Many men over 60 can stay in shape by following a healthy regimen, exercising regularly, and watching what they eat and drink.  An active lifestyle will be beneficial to older men and will keep them feeling lively, instead of tired and sluggish if they are just sitting around. Regular moderate exercise like brisk walking, swimming, cycling and sex will also help people sleep better. If the active lifestyle becomes a part of a 60 year old’s daily life, he will find positive effects on his medical conditions and he will be able to keep a healthier heart and maintain over all health. Regular activity keeps bones and joints healthy and helps in maintaining a body’s mobility and balance.

It is essential for older men to find activities that will keep them fit, and be fun to do at the same time. People rarely stick to a plan of exercise because it becomes strenuous and boring. Something that is appropriate to their level of fitness and will fit into their lifestyle is the ideal way for a 60 year old to stay in shape.

Fit 60 year olds can try running, jogging or swimming. If they are a little bit under the weather, brisk walking will be a great substitute for more strenuous exercises. T’ai chi is a type of relaxing and peaceful martial arts that will not be too physically demanding. In many areas, there are t’ai chi groups that take advantage of open spaces which will welcome new people into the group.  There are also gyms that offer yoga or exercise classes. There are also ballroom dancing classes in most areas that one can join for a small fee.  Dancing with a beautiful lady in his arms will keep a 60-year old’s heart pumping.

Local newspapers will be a good source of information for local exercise groups or fitness classes to join. However, a doctor should be consulted before starting an exercise regimen. It is important that the physical activities be appropriate and approved by a medical practitioner for men 60 years old and above.
