Just because you have grown old is no reason to be listless and lazy. There is life out there for older men and working out can be a lot of fun. Starting an exercise program can make you live longer and feel better about yourself and your family and friends will be happy for you.

Getting yourself into good condition can be easy and literally fun. You can do your exercises like the games kids enjoy in playgrounds and in their gym classes. They can be a lot more fun than going to an adult gym full of energetic young men building up their muscles while you remember the old days. You just have to use your imagination and be a little more creative in giving your limbs and muscles the workout they need.

Exercising will help you stay slim and lean, maintain your coordination and give you flexibility. You can do workout exercises with your kids or a buddy in your nearby playground or in a park near you. The trick is to do your exercises for a few minutes each day or do a longer work out at least three times a week.

If you want a weight lifting program, surround yourself with pictures or items that will motivate you. Perhaps your picture when you were younger or of someone you admire will motivate you to stick on to the program of your choice.

If you are just working out again, you have to take it slow and remember that you are not a teenager anymore. It will take a few sessions for your body to get accustomed to the stress of the workout. Your muscles and joints will make you feel it on the first few days.  Make sure you get at least a five-minute warm up before any work out. You need the warm up and stretching to prevent injury.

It has been said that the best cure for illness is sleep, as your body tissues and cells do the repairs while you are asleep. This is also the case with your workout. You do not get the muscle mass by working out in the gym for hours. Your muscles grow when you sleep after your workout. At least seven hours of sleep every night is recommended for optimum health, energy and performance.

Remind yourself of your goals with inspiring pictures in your room. Get a bathroom scale, so you can weigh yourself everyday. Be conscious of your weight so you will be reminded that you have to maintain it or improve it.  Get yourself a good buddy, so you have someone to do your exercises and other work out activities with.
