Hula Hoops: Not Just for Kids Anymore
Many adults and teens are adopting this favorite pastime as a form of exercise and a source of fun.
Websites such as hoopgirl.com suggest that hula hooping is a great way to stay in shape and have fun.
It turns out that anyone can hula hoop, regardless of age or size, with a bit of practice and a correctly sized hoop. First off, put away that kiddie hoop. You’ll want a hoop that is specifically made for adults — the bigger the better, as a larger hoop will give you more time to react.
You can purchase hoops made for adults at various websites, such as hoopnotica.com, hoopgirl.com, philthyhoops.com, and of course ebay.
These hoops can be fairly expensive, but worth your money. However, if you don’t feel like spending so much, you can always make your own hoop using these instructions from JasonUnbound.
This can be a more fun and rewarding experience, as you can make your hoop exactly the way you want it with colorful tape, and you can even add water or sand to make it heavier if you want a good workout.
Once you have your own hoop, it’s time to start hooping! Do not get discouraged if you are not good at keeping the hoop up at first — most people have trouble with this. I think that you will find with some practice, you will be spinning that hoop around you waist with ease!
Once you’ve got that down, try looking up some hoopdance moves, or make up your own! Turn on some music that gets you pumped up.
Just have fun with it! Having fun and enjoying your exercise is, in my opinion, the most important part of being happy and healthy.
Happy hooping!

I remember seeing lots of classmates at my elementary school enjoy playing with the hula hoops. As for me, I think I’ll just stick to playing Wii Sports.

Some of my friends have taken up hooping for fitness and weight loss. They’re very serious about it, too. It looks like great fun.
