Is This the Year You are Going to Take Care of Yourself and Start Exercising?
How to decide what type of exercise routine fits you and how to start a program that you will stick with.
No matter what type of exercise you choose, you would be best to start at a low level of intensity and slowly build yourself up to more strenuous routines. First, however, stop and think about what you like and dislike about running, walking, gym memberships and such. If you are a television addict and don’t really like the great outdoors, that’s not a problem, a routine that can be done while watching your favorite program would be a better fit than running. Look into a stationary bike or treadmill. If you choose something that you don’t like to do, you will not stay with it more than three or four times. So putting some thought into it up front will increase your chances of really sticking with it.
Walking is great exercise and it suitable for all levels of fitness. Anyone can start a walking program at any time. The only equipment needed is good shoes with support what differs is the intensity and duration of routines depending on your own level of fitness. You can graduate from walking to something more challenging when you are ready. Walking is a great start. Walking is also a social exercise; find a friend and walk together; you will find that you encourage each other to keep up your new routines. Walking with a partner will also make time go by faster.
If walking does not interest you and you are more social you may consider a membership to a fitness center. Variety of choice is not limited to just exercise for example there are boxing clubs, kick boxing gyms or may a martial arts program. Yoga, aerobics and sports like golf or tennis are great avenues to explore. One thing to be certain no matter what avenue you chose a good rule to remember is to always checkout the cleanliness and condition of equipment before joining any club or gym. Maybe talk to other members for their feedback. Research up front and there will not be buyers’ remorse later. A well maintained gym and equipment usually means the owners care about what they do and the service they give to customers.
And Hey, this being the age of Wii what a great idea, all ages can play and it will get everyone moving and not just sitting. Inactivity is what is aging humans faster than any other lifestyle. Move it or lose it is not just a slang phrase, if you don’t use that body you will lose it. So if 2009 is the year that you are going to get into shape, remember a little planning and learning about yourself will go a long way to pointing you in a direction that you can stick with.
