Proper Gym Hygiene
Why and how should you be hygienic at the gym you ask?
With the awareness of the benefits of health and exercise there has been an increase in the number of people who take some sort of exercise as a part of their daily routine. Most of us join gyms in order to stay healthy and to have a better body structure. But while gyms can help us get in shape they also pose a potential disaster four our health. There are hundreds of people who use the gym everyday. They use the same equipments as we do, and so it is a perfect breeding ground for bacteria. This doesn’t mean we should stop going to the gym. We can easily avoid these bacteria just by keeping a few things in mind.
First of all, always make sure that you carry a clean towel with you to the gym. Before you use any equipment wipe it with a towel, this will eliminate a good number of bacteria. Also wipe the equipments after you use it. This prevents other people from getting any bacteria in case they don’t have a towel. This practice has been made mandatory at lot many gyms these days.
Once you are in the gym, and have used the equipments, keep your hands away from your face. Hands carry a lot of germs and bacteria especially when at a public place like the gym. So always wash your hands well with soap before you touch your face. You could also carry a hand sanitizer with you to a gym and use it before you use any equipment. Hand sanitizers contain alcohol that kills the bacteria. So this eliminates your contact with them in the first place.
If you do floor exercises at the gym, do no use the floor mats provided by the gym. These are used by so many people, and have sweat and germs on them that cannot be gotten rid of easily. It is always advisable to carry your own mat with you. If you use steam or sauna facilities at the gym, get your own towel and sit on them rather than directly on the bench. Also carry your own bottle of water, rather than drinking from the gym’s water fountain. You never know what kind of drinking water the gym uses.
Keep your towel with yourself throughout the time you are the gym and don’t place them anywhere. Shower properly with a soap and rinse out your hair after every workout. If showering at the gym, carry your own soaps, shampoos and slippers. Never use the ones that are placed for common use in the gym. And if you shower at home, you can change out of your gym clothes first before you go home. Do not wear the same gym clothes till the time you reach home. Ensure that you wash the gym clothes and your socks every time after they have been used. Never wear the same pair of socks again without washing them first. If you follow these simple tips, you can stay safe in gyms.
