Walking

When is none ever enough?

We all know the benefits of walking - health, heart, weight-loss, cardio, fitness, exercise; ya know, all those buzz words that are so popular today! Go ahead, go on- line, spend a few hundred bucks on walking books & manuals and then sit back in your comfortable old recliner and read all about the various health benefits of walking. Yeah right, like it is a whole big surprise to you and you are seeing it for the very first time in print!

For those of you who really just don’t get the whole concept yet, below are a few of the indications that you just might not be walking enough:

- you find yourself driving to the convenience store & its two blocks away

- you plan the journey from chair to fridge, back to chair, like it’s a trip you’re taking

- you drive to the mall an hour early to park closer to the entrance

- you count the steps you take while vacuuming, hoping to hit that elusive 10,000 steps

- you didn’t know the guy next door had a serious crab grass problem; you’ve never seen his lawn that close up

- you flip the finger at some poor dude who drove into ”your”spot in any parking lot

- you pay more in parking lot fees than you do for the dentist’s bill

- it takes longer to warm up your car than it does to drive to your destination

- you find yourself out of breath just thinking about walking to your neighbor’s house

- you ask your kids to go for a walk and they look at you like you’re nuts

- you have a booster seat/blanket/toys in the car for the dog (oops, sorry mom!)

- you drive around a parking lot for 20 minutes looking for a spot one car width closer

- you drive your kids to the corner to catch the school bus

- you spend any time at all whining about the price of gas

- you drive to the supermarket and the odometer on your car doesn’t move

- you drive to your weight watchers meeting

- you drive yourself and your pals out for coffee and donuts after your weight watchers weigh-in

- you drive to the post office to pick up your shipment of weight loss manuals and diet books

- you didn’t know the local coffee shop had dine-in service, you’ve only seen the drive through
