Whey Protein: Why Top Athletes Choose It and You Will Too
For optimal levels of health, performance, weight loss and so much more.
We all have different opinions on what we believe is the healthiest diet to maintain. While I’m still learning something new everyday, I thoroughly enjoy sharing the interesting healthy products I’ve come across. Per several different personal trainers at different times (that are friends, their advice free of charge), I’ve been consistently told that whey protein (especially whey protein isolate) is a great protein choice to add to your diet.
Because of their advice and my love for smoothies, I tried it out and can say that I love it. For awhile, I had it everyday, my diet tends to change depending on my mood and new things I’ve learned, but I do plan on consuming it again pretty soon.
What is Whey Protein?
Whey protein is a health supplement that provides the body with higher quality protein than egg, milk or soy protein. It is low in fat, carbohydrates and calories. It is also easily digested and a great alternative for lactose intolerant people. Whey protein isolate is the purest form of this supplement.
For Optimal Physical Performance
Most serious athletes live by whey protein because, typically, they need more protein in their diets than the average person. But there are many other reasons they choose whey protein above other protein sources.
Not only does it contain all the daily required essential amino acids it is a complete, natural protein source. It also contains branched chain amino acids (BCAAs) which help replenish energy levels and repair lean muscle tissue. As mentioned earlier, whey protein is easily digested and thus, rapidly absorbed into the body offering efficient nourishment to the body.
Leucine is an essential amino acid that helps create and promote muscle growth. Whey protein contains high levels of leucine ensuring that muscles remain lean and fit. If that’s not enough, whey protein also helps to increase glutathione levels, an anti-oxidant that is necessary for strong immune system keeping athletes at their best.
Are you looking for a way to control your weight?
Whey protein can play a key role in your weight management. Why? Because it takes the body higher levels of energy to digest protein, thus, allowing you to burn more calories after each protein meal. Protein reduces the absorption of glucose in the bloodstream which reduces hunger levels allowing the body to burn fat more effectively.
As mentioned earlier, it is low in fat, calories and carbohydrates. It also contains bioactive components that activate appetite suppressing hormones to keep you feeling satiated and curb your snack food cravings. In addition, its leucine content helps to also promote weight loss by preserving lean muscle tissue.
Effective for Wound Healing
To ensure that the body can effectively heal itself it needs increased levels of protein. Amino acids and protein initiate the development of new skin to move the healing process along successfully. After burn therapy, many doctors will recommend whey protein to their patients.
Expectant Mothers
Because whey protein contains much of the same benefits found in a mother’s breast milk, it has become an important ingredient in many infant formulas. Some of these same formulas have been found to help lower crying in infants suffering from colic. Thus, when formula must be used in place of real mother’s milk, whey protein often plays a valuable role in infant early development and growth. It is recommended to consult a doctor before making any changes in an infant’s diet needs.

I am a big fan of Whey; I just wish it wasn’t so expensive in Korea compared to what it would cost in the States.
I work out regularly and I know the importance of protein for muscle growth as well as for maintaining one’s weight.
Great article.

To answer your question W.C. Barron – I have used EnergyFirst.com many times and love their chocolate flavor whey protein isolate. I did a great deal of research on it and found it to be one of the best brands with a great bargain when you order, I believe it’s 3 at a time. I hope this is helpful to you!
Blessings.

I recently purchased some whey protein from a site I found online (http://BulkFoodsDirect.com). I feel like they have a great product, even though they may not really be that well known. They have an unflavored protein powder, as well as a bunch of recipes on their site so I always have something new to try. Before I placed an order, I did a lot of research, and have continued to do so since ordering. You have a great article here with a lot of good information. Definitely reinforces my decision to add whey protein to my diet. Thanks! I hope everyone else has as much success with it as I’ve had.

I\’ve just been reading about whey protein. I\’ve heard it\’s wonderful – especially if consumed right after exercise, because the muscles are more receptive to it. I can\’t wait to get some and try it out!
