A Head Start: Avoiding Cancer
Can we really find a way to avoid getting cancer? No, but by keeping healthy we just might have a fight chance.
Cancer is a horrible disease and none of us want to die from any form of cancer; but we cannot control that; or can we. There are some things that can help us attempt to avoid cancer, by staying healthy, and seeking ways to prevent cancer by staying informed by reading, inquiring and speaking with our health care providers. The biggest and number one way to avoid cancer is never to smoke, and stay away from those who do smoke. Second hand cigarette smoke is just as dangerous for him as it is for the smoker both inhale chemicals some more toxic than the others. Living in a highly pollutant neighborhood increase the amount of toxics we breathe daily. For those who drive to work and sit in traffic, they too are exposing their bodies, skin, lungs and other vital organs to many harmful pollutants. If possible, try to get out of that type of situation; perhaps it would be healthier to take public transportation or if your can obtain a job in a less populated and polluted area then move away.
Poor diets and obesity is also a cause of concern regarding cancer, since those with a poor diet, are more likely to become sick. When we say poor diet we are talking about high fat, loads of refine sugars and high sodium; a healthy diet would consist of items that are high in fiber, fresh fruits and vegetable and a limited intake red meats. This type of improvement in diet would correct obesity in more that 75% of the population. Most people who suffer from obesity are so because of a poor diet.
Something else to consider is lack of movement; EXERCISE! Exercise is a very important way to combat obesity while keeping you healthy and strong. Right here we can attempt to ward off cancer by eating right, loosing weight if you suffer from obesity; and exercise things we should be doing already to stay healthy. Exercise helps our body to eliminate toxics through sweat, while the increased use of our lungs brings in more oxygen rich air; thus helping to eliminate poisons that we breathe and ingest; that settle in our blood, our cells and our vital organs.
For some people it is their genetics and family, such is the case of breast cancer; if you’re mother, sister, or grandmother had breast cancer; it increases your odds that this type of cancer will directly affect you at some point in your life. When it comes to genetics, and family the only true preventive care is regular testing and follow-ups with your doctor. Never feel too embarrassed to ask or mention something that is not right regarding your body or how your feeling, these things that seem silly to you, just may be a sign of something more serious.
We have not found a way to cure cancer, but we can work on staying informed, keeping our self, healthy. We need to know the signs of cancer and always speak up when visiting the doctor, especially if your just not feeling right.
