Alchol Free Wine: What are The Health Benefits?

Red wine has considerable health benefits, but what if you don’t want the alcohol? Try a glass of alcohol free wine instead.

Sipping on a glass of red wine is surprisingly good for your health, but to get the benefits, you need to drink around two glasses a day and not everyone wants to consume that much alcohol for one reason or another. If you want some of the many health benefits that red wine offers, but don’t want the tipsy feeling, you have another option. You can pour yourself a refreshing glass of alcohol free wine.

Alcohol free wine is a beverage now carried in many grocery stores. As the name implies, alcohol free wine is not booze since most of the alcohol has been filtered out. Most alcohol free wine is less than one percent alcohol, so it’s unlikely to make you the life of the party after drinking a glass. On the other hand, it still has most of the components that make red wine such a healthy drink to sip.

What are the health benefits of red wine? It’s full of phytochemicals including flavanoids and resveratrol that are not only antioxidants, but also stop platelets from sticking together which could help stave off a heart attack or blood clot. Some animal studies even show that drinking red wine lowers the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. While flavanoids lower LDL cholesterol levels slightly, the alcohol in regular red wine raises levels of HDL, the good cholesterol, so drinking the real thing may provide some additional health benefits not found with drinking alcohol free wine.

On the other hand, alcohol free wine has some health advantages of its own. It only has about a quarter of the calories of regular wine which can save significant calories if you plan on drinking it every day. One drawback to drinking regular wine is it increases the risk of breast cancer in women. Studies have shown that this is true of drinking any type of alcoholic beverage, so drinking alcohol free wine is a safer choice for women concerned about their breast cancer risk.

Drinking alcohol free wine may be a healthful option for those who want to stay away from alcoholic beverages, but what about the taste? Some people describe alcohol free wine as lacking in taste due to its thinner texture, while others find it quite acceptable. Alcohol free wine is relatively inexpensive and with a little experimentation, you may find one that suits your taste. If not, grape juice is another alcohol free alternative with lots of antioxidant power. Just make sure you get the kind with no added sugar.
