Ambroxol (mucosolvan) Syrup

Few weeks back I suffered from cough which occurred especially during night with plenty of mucus secretion. It wouldn’t just allow me to sleep and I took some over the counter syrup but didn’t help, so I visit a doctor who prescribed me Ambroxol (mucosolvan) Syrup.

Mucosolvan Syrup contains Ambroxol which is a mucolytic agent especially administered to expectorate phlegm.  So I started using mucosolvan Syrup, three times a day (prescribed by my doctor) and as it contains artificial sweetener, I had no hard times using it.

On the very first day of using mucosolvan Syrup, I felt slightly relieved and I did manage to catch proper sleep that night. Eventually using it over a week, I managed to get rid of the cough. Ambroxol is also available in tablet form but mucosolvan Syrup is easier to intake and felt it had better effects.

Ambroxol (mucosolvan) side effects

Unlike any other medications Ambroxol (mucosolvan) syrup also is subject to side effects and though I didn’t feel much of adverse effects, I would like to highlight few of the side effects which I noticed on using it initially.

On the first day of using Ambroxol (mucosolvan) syrup, I suffered from slight headache, nausea and dizziness. Though nausea and headache disappeared after few hours, I felt dizzy and sleepy, most of the time after administering mucosolvan Syrup.  Only when I stopped using mucosolvan Syrup did life get back to normal, so be cautious while using Ambroxol (mucosolvan) syrup.

In case any side effects become persistent or troublespome, stop using Ambroxol (mucosolvan) and consult a doctor.
