Antibiotics Abuse

We all think Antibiotic are a quick fix, sometimes yes, most times we are just suffering from a common viral cold that the antibiotic can’t fix.

Antibiotics Abuse

Staphylococcus – in a test plateIn today’s struggles avoiding using up sick time, or having a place for our kids to stay when they are sick, parents often run off to the doctor office, nearly demanding that the child be given antibiotics. We live in a society were we need “quick fixes”; and think Antibiotics are the answer. As the case may be, over using antibiotics can over time cause them not to work for you, as they may have in the past. The reason for that is because you have developed a resistance to them, and the bacteria that your hoping to destroy many have mutated, and the antibiotic that would have worked a month ago, just won’t make you or your child feel better sooner. Another reason the antibiotic just may not work is, antibiotic kill bacterial, it does nothing for a virus. Viruses have to be left to run it cause, the best you can do is purchase cold medications, such as Alavert or Sudafed for nasal congestion or allergy systems. If you develop a cough, there is Robitussin, which is great for chest congestion and quieting a cough, they also have Robitussin PE, which is for cough a nasal congestion; along with other formula for added systems. Mucinex a new medication on the market has been given a high standing approval for helping to break up chest congestion. As with any medication always check with you primary doctor to be sure that it won’t affect other medication that you may be taking. Remember antibiotic kill only bacteria and over usage of antibiotic will lead to developing a resistance against them; and when you really have a horrible bacterial infection, it just may take going through a month or two of different antibiotic to find the right one for you or your child. Many people make the mistake of relating a fever to an infection; bacterial infections as well as viral infections can cause a person to run a fever, so don’t think just because a fever is present the child needs antibiotic.

  2. This information is very important. I’m bit afraid of antibiotic though.

  3. You are right. Antibiotics is not the solution for all diseases.

  4. I think they are often overused too. A helpful article.

  5. I agree there is an overusage. Another contributing factor is a lot of people fail to complete the full cause – when they are slightly better, the stop taking the antibiotics which then allow the remaining bacterial to build up immunitiy.

  6. I am a nurse and I see this all the time. Well done article.

  7. Thanks for making me aware of this!
