Birthmarks

What a birthmark is as well as different names and different types.

Birthmarks are harmless small patches usually found on newborns. Newborns usually get birthmarks before or shortly after they are born and most of them fade after two or three weeks. If noticed many newborns have birthmarks in the same area either the back of the neck (stork bite) or between the eyebrows (angle kiss).

There are many different kinds of birthmarks; the most common type is hemangioma. Hemangioma happens when many new blood vessels group together in one place on the skin causing a blotch look. These birth marks also fade over a period of time.

On the other hand, there is also a Strawberry Hemangioma. This birth mark is a red color and slightly sticks out. Strawberry hemagioma may take up to five years to go away. And lastly there is a hemangioma that isn’t very common it’s called a port-wine stain. This type of birthmark is not puffy and it has a reddish tint to it.

All hemagioma’s are not a health risk to the body, they are simply tiny blood vessels grouped together in a certain area. Treatment for birthmarks is simple, you just leave them alone and they should go away within a few weeks to a few years. If there is a bad case in which the birthmark does not fair some doctors will laser the blood vessels.
