Cello Scrotum
Doctor, doctor, I’ve got a musical problem.
Of all the spoofs, pranks and practical jokes that I have come across, this one ticks all the boxes for me.
An English doctor wrote a spoof letter to a respected medical journal (British Medical Journal) detailing a phoney medical condition that some musicians are said to suffer – “cello scrotum”. The idea came to the doctor after she read the report of another doctor detailing “guitar nipple”, a (supposedly) genuine condition afflicting some male classical guitarists, whereby the guitar pressed against the chest irritates the nipple. (Does such a condition deserve a name?)
The spoof letter was accepted as genuine and published. The condition, she alleged, is caused by the pressure exerted by a cello upon the scrotum, although anyone who has observed a man playing a cello will know how impossible it would be for the cello to come anywhere near the musicians bits.
The good doctor (former professor at a London hospital and now a Peer of the Realm and involved in the oversight of the British National Health Service) decided to come clean about her letter 34 years after the fact because it was recently used as evidence in a learned paper produced by some other eager, gullible doctor who was writing on the subject of music-related conditions.
Beware, your spoofs will find you out.

Guitar nipple is real. Righties playing a full size acoustic sitting down will have the top edge of the guitar body within an inch or two of the right nipple, for men. Painful swelling ensues, hehe.
