Doctors Trying to Gag Their Patients

Rise of online reviews upset some doctors.

According to the AP, some doctors are asking their patients to sign waivers promising not to post reviews of their service on sites like Yelp.

Aside from the fact that this is highly suspect behavior from the doctors since they should offer their best service in the face of these reviews it is also Constitutionally questionable.

“John Swapceinski, co-founder of RateMDs.com, said that in recent months, six doctors have asked him to remove negative online comments based on patients’ signed waivers. He has refused.

“They’re basically forcing the patients to choose between health care and their First Amendment rights, and I really find that repulsive,” Swapceinski said.

He said he’s planning to post a “Wall of Shame” listing names of doctors who use patient waivers.”

This is a disturbing trend and one that will likely end in lawsuits from both sides.

What do you think?  If your doctor asked you to sign this kind of waiver, would you do it?  Not sure what is in it for the patients…
