Food requirements for pregnant women
With the mother during pregnancy in three main phases, each lasting three months, and the stage of different levels of nutrition in terms of quantity and quality according to each stage where the requirements are becoming more food in the last period of pregnancy than in early pregnancy
Food requirements in the first trimester of pregnancy is less than one-third less than the second remaining third.
Pregnant mothers need to increase the quantity of the food items covered by it prior to pregnancy but the magnitude of the increase varies from one food item to another For example, the increase in the amount of energy in the range of 15%, while in the case of folic acid of 120%.
The following table shows the nutritional needs of pregnant women and the proportion of the required increase in nutrients as a result of pregnancy.
The total energy
Women need a quantity of pre-pregnancy calorie equivalent to 2200 calories per day and should increase the amount of energy during pregnancy by 150 kcal during the first trimester of pregnancy and increase to 300 – 350 calories during a two-thirds the second and third trimesters, and may reach the amount of total calories In some cases, as in pregnant or infected with Active Bsw nutrition to 3000 kilocalories, an increase of 800 calories for before pregnancy.
It is noted, as is evident in the attached table that the rate of increase in the total energy as a result of pregnancy, equivalent to 15% which is less than the required increase in other nutrients must therefore deal with a pregnant food low in energy content and high nutritional value such as meat, poultry, fish and dairy products and eggs.
The mother uses the excess energy in the work of the following:
• fetal growth and the formation of new tissue.
