Five Amazingly Common Things That Cause Headaches
A list of common, everyday things that can cause headaches.
Headaches are part of our daily lives that we tend to ignore it and take it less seriously, learning how to cope with it ourselves.
Most of us have a certain kind of painkiller in the purse or a pack of ice ready and waiting in the freezer. We know the usual suspects for these headaches: eye strain from too much tv or computer work, stress, pressure in the office or even because of too much worrying about, well, everything in our lives.
But aside from those there are a number of surprisingly simple and common things that we encounter daily that can give us that unsettling pain in our head.
Let’s start the list with probably the last thing we’d ever suspect
Sex
Now how about that? Who would have guessed something that gives so much pleasure can also give pain, headache to be precise. This can happen during foreplay or even at orgasm. Quite unfair you might say.
A simple explanation for this is that during sex we tend to exert too much pressure and sometimes that pressure can build up in our heads. It’s not only with sex as running, coughing and even defecating can cause it.
Weather
Our brain is so complex yet sensitive that studies have shown it is sensitive enough to sense certain atmospheric changes such as humidity, temperatures, barometric pressure and even lightning. To some people, a heavily cloudy sky or worse, a darkly gray overhead can cause them headaches.
Scientists speculate that these headaches are triggered by electrical and chemical changes in the brain during a change also in the weather. People who suffer from this should have a cold compress or a pill of ibuprofen handy.
Headbands and Ponytails
These ones are quite simple you might find it stupid. But it’s true. A significant percentage of headaches are due to too much pressure applied on the scalp. A headband that’s too snug or a ponytail that pulls a bit harder than normal, these can surely cause a migraine. It also goes for caps and hats.
What’s the remedy? Simple. Loosen up.
Hunger
Fasting, dieting and skipping meals are really not good for us. These make our blood sugar level go down which scientists believe can sometimes trigger the nerve cells which in turn cause headache or other body pains.
So don’t let yourself go hungry. Plan your day so that you can eat smaller meals in between the three main meals of the day.
Perfume
Our noses and our brain can get picky. We all react to certain scents in different manners. We might feel euphoric, relaxed or even disgusted if a scent repulses us. It is normal for us to find that a perfume scent may hurt us instead.
Some scents, especially those of the stronger kind, can stimulate our brain’s nerve cells. These cells can at times associate the “pleasant” smell into something that’s painful. Some perfume-caused headaches can last for a few minutes to even a day.
